I was a volunteer spotter at the 1st PWT event in Houghton, MI a few years back. My co-worker was born and raised in Houghton and his good buddy was the volunteer coordinator for the tourney. He had those pros calling him up a month or so in advance for some local knowledge, advice, and to go fishing with them. Is that going on this time around? Just wondering how the "Big Dogs" are doing? Anyone talking of the quirky tactics they're trying to score 'eyes on the Croix? It's always interesting to hear how the top finishers unlocked whatever body of water they are on.

I haven't been on the St. Croix since the last weekend in September but I will be south of the Kinni on Sunday. I'm planning on hitting the river Wednesday for sure and maybe Friday if I don't duck hunt. My dad will be up for another try next weekend since the late Sept. trip was a bust, so I should be on the river Sat and Sun as well. It appears to be a fishing heavy week for me. It is rough, but someone has to do it.

Was out yesterday afternoon by the Bluffs, and saw about 5 PWT boats pre fishing the tourney. All these boats i saw have a minimum of 250 HP MERC. VERADO. Nice boats. Their sonar/gps was as big as my 52" LCD plasma at home. LOL

One guy trolled so close to my boat, can't be more than 5 feet, then circled my boat. I think he was marking the spot where i was..Little did he know i am a newbie.

Any FM'rs fishing the Tourney?

Report: 62.5 Water temp. 3 Crappies, and one Sunny for 3 hours of fishing. Targeting walleyes and saugers.

Get used to it. Most tourney anglers are very respectfull on the water but they are fishing for some pretty good coin. They come from all over and fish hard!! If anyone out there has never been to a major tourny weigh-in, I would recommend going down and taking a couple of hours to watch. It's always fun seeing these guys bring in some nice bags.

So, when is the tourney? Where is it out from? When / where is the weigh in?

I was out on the 'Croix this morning. Down around Catfish Bar and in the main channel between 94 bridge and swing bridge. There were approx. 6 to 8 pro boats in the channel. I didn't see one fish caught all morning. I talked to a couple of guys in a Team Crestliner rig. They said it has been SLOW. I had a surface temp. of 58 degrees when I got off the water at noon. No pros fishing Catfish Bar but they were very respectful as they came thru. Gonna be a great event.

Seen them running all over today but not much fishing, after today outing and the total weight our boat picked up, the tournament is going to put up some good weight totals and the bite is just starting to get good! cool

I'll be fishing this event as an amateur this week and also an observer for the championship shootout on saturday. Should be interesting. I've spent my whole life living within 10 miles of the river. In fact I now live and work within 1 mile of the river and I've never fished it. I've spent a ton of time on Mille Lacs and the lakes in the Brainerd area so it will be neat to see what the water in my own back yard has to offer. I fished the PWT as an amateur on Mille Lacs in 1993 and is was a great learning experience. Too bad this is the final year of the PWT circuit. I'm glad I can be a part of the final tournament.

Welcome to FM Jeff. So you've lived that close to the river and never fished? That's blasfamy man!! laugh Just giving you a hard time. It's a great fishery. Good luck out there as an amature and let us know how you do.

Does this tournament allow the anglers to fish pool 3 of the old miss? Or do they have to stop at the train bridge?

From what I've heard, they can head anywhere. They just have to be back by 4 PM.

So Hastings high bridge? And the north side of lock 4? Then up north on the Croix I am guessing the low car bridge just below the boom site?

Ahhhh...so they can go through the locks if they desire? Bet some are wishing pool 2 was fair game(all catch and release)

I usually always throw back my 20"+ fish so I actually have been following the MN state law of only one over 20 is allowed.
What is there daily limit? And no high end on size on MN-WI border water?
