Looking to hit the water some more before I have to tuck the boat away, any reports on lakes north of Grand Rapids? I really like to fish the smaller lakes.

Pike and bass (smallies and largies) have been ridiculous as of last week, or that's what one of my buddies was telling me. Not much to report on the pannies or eyes, last eye report I heard was trout by coleraine. I was out a few weeks ago and did very well, both size and numbers. What are ya looking for?

I fish for just about anything that bites, been doing fair for most, but the dang crappies have been so elusive for me. Would love to get into a mess of them. I have fished Spider, Wabana once, a couple of small lakes, Jessie a couple of times.

I would stay away from the more popular lakes if you're looking for bass and pannies. Some of the smaller lakes with poor accesses get fished very little, and the fish, especially bass, are dumb as rocks and the size can be just unbelieveable. My favorite bass lake is about 30 acres, has a mile long carrydown access, and isn't even on the dnr's website, but i've caught more bass over 20" outta that one lake than any other lake combined. Same goes for pannies in spades.

My nephew and I are going to try and hit some smaller lakes with the canoe next weekend. I don't care how cold it is. I've been digging around Google maps for some small off the beaten path lakes. Hopefully we find some fish and don't tip the canoe!

Maybe I'll see if anyone can give us some tips by starting a new thread.

If you wanna email me the names of the lakes, i can tell ya if you're going on a wild goose chase or not. I know most of the lakes in the nashwauk-grand rapids-marcell-talmoon area and have been into most of them. jeff_lynch 55 at yahoo dot com.
