With the rain this afternoon, that should save a few of them for poor schmucks like me that are stuck at work this weekend! LOL Say Dave, where exactly did you see those birds????? LOL

LOL! grin Glad to hear there's a few birds around. Now all I have to do is find some time to hunt them in between fishing, bowhunting, and the up coming duck hunts. We need about 3 months of October around here.

Let's see...............which 2 months do we get rid of?????
February, yay, no more stressing about Valentines Day gifts.

And how about April, not much going on then.

We found 6 birds, bagged 3. They were all huddled up under clumps of balsam. It was VERY wet and we didnt stay out as long as we would have liked, so for a short peirod of time, six birds aint too bad.
go vikes!

Yeah, the vikings, hmmm mad Anyway, where can I look up walking and/or atv trails for hunting up in that area? Which areas are typically better grouse areas than others?

The Forest Service has ATV maps outlining the routes open in the Chip and the Big Fork State Forest. This map illustrated those routes open to ATV's which was finalized (and now enforcable) since last year.

Thanks for the info. I don't hunt, but my dad does. It'd be easy to talk him into going up there though and do a hunting/fishing combo trip.

Very Close to peak. I was up last weekend and about a fourth of the Maple leaves were on the Ground.

Well..... Between me and my pops, and between Marcell and blackduck we have gotten like 12 grouse so far(very good). We have done real well on rainy, misty days in balsam stands. The rest have come in random mature hardwood uplands. Surprisingly we haven't done that well in young aspen stands. With all the rain we are suppose to have this weekend I will be hitting some balsam stands again. GOOD LUCK! heres a pic of one I got with my mossberg bolt action 20 gauge.
