i am looking to head to lura this fall over MEA. I am looking to bring some students from our church youth group in hopes at a hog but here is a few questions i have. Is there many duck hunters out there? Is safety an issue if so? Also does this lake turnover sooner than others? Is it good in the fall? Do most of the bass move up shallow - ( so like our to 4 feet and into 2 eek) Anyway just looking for a heads up on those that have fished it in the fall before. ike

I havent fished it in the fall in a long time, but back in the day the fall bite was the best IMO. I might have to give it a try myself this year.

I've seen some PIG bass out there...matter of fact that is mostly what that lake is known for, the fish that have survived since the most recent reclamation. A few are always hanging out by some of the rocky spots from the habitat restoration or in or around woody debris.

I don't think there would be a lot of duck hunters since there really isn't a lot of great cover to blind up in, there aren't any great narrows or points to pass shoot from, and there are better waterfowl hunting options in the area. Concerns for safety around hunters are pretty minimal; I'd be surprised to see anyone and being that things are so open they would see you, you would see them, etc.

You won't see a fall turnover on this lake. It's too shallow and windswept to stratify. You won't find any fish in any sort of pre or post turnover moods like you might in other deeper lakes.

This lake can be good any time but fall can be great. Should be good numbers of BIG fish up shallow. I'd love to get a report if you go. I would guess you'll run into some BIG fish.

Good luck.

The only spot I would worry about some hunters are in the very south end of the lake, near the Sportman's Landing. I've seen some there in the past.

ike, when is MEA?

I have fished this lake quite often (spring, summer, & fall). The water is low and hard to fish many trees.

There is always a few goose hunters in fall, but they don't interfere with fishing too much.

I'll be out there sometime this weekend, and I'll be out with some work associates from Japan on the 19th. Right now I am breaking in the Yammie on the new Skeeter!

Another point, when I'm fishing out there in the fall I usually see the hunters in the bay. And when I'm one of those hunters, I'm usually in those bays haha grin

Hey, if someone gets out there and sees that place where the cornfield is falling into the lake, could you take a really good photo of it? Keep all the megapixels - and make sure it's clear. If it's good, I'll even pay you something for it.

If you have a GPS along, could you punch in a waypoint with the coordinates too? I haven't had a chance to get out there, and now my Suzuki has laid down on me. I would appreciate the assistance. I have some unfinished business that would be helped with that picture.

My email address is monte.meyer@gmail.com.
