can a guy shoot slugs through a 28 inch bird barrel with a sx2? is it safe, will it damage anything? If so, what choke is best/safest?

I dont know about the X2's but for my Super X3 it's $500 for a slug barrel. Might as well buy an 870 set up with a slug barrel for that kind of money.
I'm thinking about getting a rifled choke for my X3 to use for slug shooting.

Its perfectly fine to shoot slugs through a bird barrel. Just use rifled slugs, not sabots. I use improved cyl. for the choke.

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. Has anyone shot a slug through the field barrel yet. I have to super x2's, a 3" and a 3 1/2". I bought some buckshot the other day but was wondering if I could use slugs. How accurate can this setup be with no sights or anything? Just wanted to see if anyone has done it yet.

Shot 3 slugs thru mine the other day. was about 4 inches high and right at 100 yrds. with the imp. cyl. choke and the federal tru ball slugs. Definetley gonna put a scope on for next year.

I use a 1187 with improved cylinder choke. I put a scope on it an I have a 3inch group at 150 yards. I shoot the cheap 2 3/4 or 3 inch Winchester slugs. Why spend 200 plus on a slug barrel for one week a year. My dad has shot the same 1100 with the bird barrel and I can't even begin to count how many deer he shot at 100 to 120 yard range. Slug barrels are nice but I can't spend that kind of money on one. I'll take my 200 bucks and sink it in to my bow or some goose decoys.

I have a Browning Gold Fusion (nearly identical to your X2) and I just put a B-SQUARE mount and scope combo on it. I shot a 2 inch group at 50 yds with 3 federal truball 2 3/4 slugs, then shot it once at 100 yds and was left of center by 3 inches. I am very pleased so far and I will put more slugs through it when I get the chance.
You can get the combo for 50-80 bucks if you look around. I think the Browning Gold 12 ga model also fits the Winchester X2.
I think it's a great option if you don't want to spend hundreds on a rifled barrel and can live with 3-4 inch groups at 100 yds.

I've shot X2 through a smooth 28" barrel with a full choke, but its not as accurate as the regular cheap slugs with the grooves already on the bullet. The grooves on the bullet makes up for the grooves in a fully rifle barrel, when all you got is a smooth barrel shotgun.
Oh, and I wouldn't recommend shooting a slug with grooves through a fully rifle barrel. It will scratch up the grooves in the fully rifle barrel. Goodluck.

What was the results of slugs with a full choke? Did your barrel bust open on the end? from what iv'e been told, cylinder, and improved cylinder chokes for shootin slugs. What kind of grouping did you get? Just curious. Dont think i can get myself to use a full choke w/ slugs.
