They come from Duluth. When I was stationed up there I knew a couple of Pilots. I had them buzz my Aunt and Uncles cabin on Portage a lot back in the mid 70's. It can shake up the area pretty good.

So Garyc, if you were on Portage, then you have to know where Ude Lake is...if it's the Portage south of 210.

It is and I spent my older youth there. Cabin was finished in mid to late 60's. It is on the West side, just b-4 the bay.
It has been 25 years since I was there last, so no it is not ringing a bell.

About a 1/4 of a mile south of 210 just before the railroad tracks, there is a small lake on the west side of Portage lake road....

Ya I never knew it had a name associated to it. Maybe it was mentioned, but I didn't care about it I guess. I was 15 at that time, maybe 14. I learned how to drive down that road. My granpa would let us drive from 210 to the cabin.
I remember playing ball in an open field that was owned by someone who had a farm I believe.. I can't think of the name.

Nelsons. Zaks, Lamberts and Greers had farms...Zaks was right on the corner where the road turns along the lake...Nelsons were on each side of the road over the hill and Lamberts was at the end before it starts twisting and ends up in Kimberly. Greers was on each side of 210.

What kind of Military Jets. Like Raptors??? We always had C-130's fly over my place in New Prague, but that isn't a jet. Kind of curious. Never seen a military jet fly by, except at Oshkosh.

Back then they were F-101 and F-4's. Every once and a while the T-33's came over, from the Duluth Airbase.

Ude lake, I guess it was Zaks. The name does not sound familar, but like I said it was a long time ago. Approx 38 years. I would have to speak to my Aunt about the names. They still have that place. I like to call the cabin, the last place left. If you drove past the place, you went for a swim if you made it to the bay. Did we know each other back then.?????

I don't remember any Gary's...My folks had the first place on Portage Lake road....we now have the land just before you turn to the lake....It's the only big field past the railroad tracks. Small world out there.

No kidding. I think the Johnsons were in a white cabin, fairly open with a big yard down towards the lake. There was only a few cabins along that shore back then, and we were the last cabin on the right, at the bottom of the hill. I am going to have to put on my thinking cap to recall stuff from that far back.

I think the Johnsons now has many "cabins". The place really grew up lately.
