The ban expired in 2004. In 2007 H.R 1022 was introduced which will reauthorize the Clinton ban and add many more guns to it. I believe it is still in committee. And you can bet the farm Obama will sign it if he gets a chance. And if you think this only affects those evil "assault weapons" you better read the bill.

I read it and wonder why does anyone, not in law enforcement, need those kind of guns?

I have all the guns and ammo I'll ever need for hunting and self protection.

Why does it make sense to continue the proliferation of these kinds of guns?

I'm not trying to make a point but merely to understand.

We need them BECAUSE law enforcement has them. We need to be able to defend our family and property against our govt if need be. personally Im not worried about anyone taking the guns that I have. They can pass all the laws they want.

Good grief. We need to start making people take an IQ test and a drug test before they can vote.

It's because they wont stop there. Eventually they will come after your bolt action deer rifle that you think is so safe.

aw yes 2004...hmm I wonder what that was back in 96. O well my memory is playing games on me ahhaah, 2 wrong facts in 1day...yeesh. Was doing so well before then.

Anyways, I just looked up this gun ban of 94...looks like the provision is semi auto assault weapons. It basically defined what an assault rift was... Didn't say anything about hand guns O.o
But interestingly...bid2...i would love to have an OCIW assult rifle or G36C laugh ....but i'm quite sure no one would want those babies around.

I think deerhuntr you're just a little paranoid...if they banned "assult" rifles sucessfully, why didn't they just went ahead the next day to your bolt actions?
makes no sense

and i absolutely agree with you on the IQ and drug testing.
but then a lot more gun totters wouldn't be able to vote....

Because at this point in time, assault rifles look "evil". Nevermind all they are is a semi-auto rifle.

the best analogy I can come up with, on the spur of the moment, is that they are like Rats in a grain silo---one little bite at a time -----just a matter of time and the entire silo is gone!!!

interesting, i guess there's no line of logic that can convince you guys. Or any line of logic to convince "us" that the guns will go bye bye. Spur of the moment huh. I wonder how hunters got by during 1994-2004.
Next thing you know, they'll come after your bows too. And your hunting knife, and your dogs!

Guess what? The 2nd amendment is NOT about hunting.

Tell me what exactly the second amendment is about. There's two constitutional interpertations of it. Either which doens't take away your guns.
Let Congress take away your guns...sue the [PoorWordUsage] out of them and the supreme court with the constitutionalists on board would repeal the law in a heartbeat. No liberal enough judge wouldn't see it as a infringement on the people's Constitutional Rights.
And the Congress who "took" your guns away, would lose power in the next election. The New Congress then can make a repelling law if the court hasn't done anything.
I don't see how they'll take your arms away or messing with the 2nd amendment.

They took alcohol away, and the country had the most alcohol circling the country in the country's history.

It's true, we all know gov't stops at a certain level right? wink We'll raise this tax five cents this year. Then next year we'll sneak in a little more and a little more. We'll ban smoking in resturants and we'll let them get used to it. Then we'll ban it in bars. Pretty soon you can't smoke at home, under covers (thanks Denis Leary). You guys ever learn anything when govt runs amuck? They want to ban assault (I agree you don't have any need for them) because they are semi auto? What about the semi-auto shotguns? Semi-auto rifles for deer? Where you gonna stop?

It's starting to sink in that McCain's gonna lose. Posts are getting more paranoid and loopy by the day. I kind of feel for you guys, though. It wasn't fun when the shoe was on the other foot and democrats were an afterthought. Hang in there, it all goes in cycles.
