Went out this morning and got on fish asap, Found eyes in 10-16fow, bit really well for about a hour then went dead, so off to another area, just stripers then off to another area nothing bare as bare can be, rain was coming down pretty good by then so the trip was going to be morning only so we spent a hour or so catching crappies, finish with a nice batch of fish to clean and a very happy guy! fishing is getting better, next weekend I'm going with a couple guys out on saturday and fishing is going to be great!

Yeah today gave me alot of confidence that the bite is picking up, seemed that fish on graph translated to bites on the line, at least in certain areas that is, good times and its only going to get better!

Yes I've started to shorten my leaders three footers or so, by the end of the month I'll be down to 2 footers wink

Now you have my curosity up. What is the advantage of going with shorter leaders? Better bait action, more sensitive...?

Less snaggy, keeps the bait closer to the bottom, control over the bait...I think

There is a couple advantages with a shorter leader as the water temps drop one is with a shorter leader staying vertical is easier and better bait control, fish tend to be bunched up as water temps fall and a shorter leader helps stay on them and also the fish doesn't have to chase the bait

How could shorter leader stay further from the bottom versus a long leader?

There are a lot of variables. Line density, length and diameter combined with boat/water speed will all come into play on how the bait end is presented. I could see a setup that a short leader could run higher at a given speed, but in most cases a short leader will be near the bottom. Especially if you're running a 4" leader!.. confused

Nice fish Dan!!! I could use that one next week in the tourny!

Not sure if this was in there but, shorter leaders will also add to bite detection.
