How is everything going river wise? what would be the best bet to hook some late season northerns and bass maybe find a few marble eyes panfish would be great too. this will probably be the last time i will be up for a few years due to job so i wanna make it one of the best. help me guys. we are on the mississippi by merrifield. any help would be greatly appreciated. good luck all

look in deep holes (relative to the stretch of river you are on) and use snell w/ large chubs (4-6 is what I prefer) for the biggest smalleys of the year. Suckers work in a pinch. Just remember it is catch and release all across MN until spring.
And set the hook quick to avoid deep hooking and killing the pigs. Also try to upgrade hooksize accordingly.
If you'd rather target walleyes, then I suggest small chubs and or large fatheads on a snell or jig.

are the bays and the lakes off the river above the paper dam still chocked out or they starting to die off yet. will the chubs get some largemouths and northerns also? anyone try swimbaits by chance? how are the crappies around that time granted i was up this time last year but everything has been thrown off this year just wondering if it is catching up .

Downstream of the Half Moon landing was awesome, didn't matter what bait, nightcrawlers,Rapalas,Mepps black fury's,or jigs with plastic grubs all produced lots of small mouths and several huge slimers. The bass were huge and one northern topped 36 inches with a plastic crawdad hooked to his lip.

To get to the Half Moon Landing take 3 out of Merrifield to 19.The landing is somewhere off 19 I beleive.Right underneath the powerlines and the next 8th mile downstream is the place to be.Ive seen plenty of big boats there but you always have to be careful on a river

My wife and I will be up there on Wed. also. Go up every year in June. This will be our honeymoon, got married on Sat. What kind of gal is this, Huh? Also staying at Rugged River. They are great. Will be in the knotty pine cabin at the top of the hill. If you see me/us in a white Starcraft with a Merc tiller, stop by and say hi! good luck, Mike (aka) rivernut

Randy, thank you. I wonder what river that could be? Could I have done any better, she wants to spend the honeymoon fishing. OK, we will be going to dinner and the casino also. But after 7 yrs. I thought I should make it official, before she changed her mind. LOL Take care, Mike.
