I had it done to one of my trailers, in that case the trailer manufacturer made a swing tongue that basically just bolted into the frame. I had a dealership do it because the trailer had brakes and there were more lines and wires than I wanted to deal with.
In terms of how much length you can save, it really depends on where your winch stand is, and if there's any room to adjust it's location and still have your boat ride correctly on the rollers or bunks.

I installed one on my trailer 2 years ago....it's been great! Installation was easy with only needing to cut and bolt on the new tongue. I shaved a little over 2 ft. off tongue in order to fit in the garage totaling nearly 2.5 ft. when folded. My tongue length was pretty long so the winch stand was never really much of an issue. Good luck!

I have been interested in these also. Now if there was a way to shave 1/4" off of each side for the width, I'd be able to store it in my buddies garage and save a few hundo a year.

Can you get it in the garage at an angle then straighten it up once it's in?
