My life has changed in many ways over the past 7 years.

I'm quite sure that includes all of us.

I cannot however recall ever having been as angry to have seen the wasted promise of my nation.

The current occupant bears some responsibility for this in my view as do those in both parties that have demonstrated a "failure to lead".

I will be glad to see the holder of the highest office in the land change as I do for the "new" blood at all levels of government.

I use to chastize those who didn't vote.

Now I'm afraid I am starting to understand.

I took it by meaning from Foreign and/or domestic attacks. I believe that that will dictate to some extent.

In the first 6 years of W's presidency, my ability to provide for my family grew considerably and I felt proud to be an American. In the last two years, I've lost my job (still unemployed since last October) and have been screwed by new taxes and less deductions (plus, I didn't receive the stimulus check, even though I'd been out of work...) and saw the amount of my takehome pay consistently reduced. So what was the difference between the first 6 years and last 2 years of his presidency??? Well, let's see... what happened two years ago in the general election - oh yeah, the dems took control over both the house and the senate, seated two very far left, out of touch libs into the Speaker and Majority Leader seats and have screwed up just about everything that Bush and the previous Congresses accomplished. I'm also torqued off that the Republicans that took control in '04 forgot why people voted for them... We have too many out-of-touch Washingtonites (both parties) that have look at "Service" as an opportunity to build their own legacies and bulk up their own bank accounts. The Obama/Biden ticket is not the answer - that ticket is more of the same; sure, they're on the other 'side' but they're not on 'our side'! Is the McCain/Palin ticket the perfect choice? No but McCain has consistently fought against both sides when he felt their policies/agenda were not directed toward the betterment of this country and Palin is about as much of a Washington outsider as you possibly name to the VP candidacy.

From the Detroit News, excerpts from a column by United Auto Workers President Ron Gettelfinger dated Friday, Sept. 5.

Wages have fallen, tens of thousands have lost thier homes and health care, food and fuel costs are sky high, and prospects for finding a good jobs are melting faster than polar ice.

An April poll by CNN...81% of those surveyed believe our country is on the "wrong tract."

Fot the past 8 yrs., our public policies have been skewed to benefit corporate America and the wealthy few at the expence of workers. Economic Policy Institute says, real income for the median American family dropped 1% between 2000-2006. Meanwhile, between 1989 and 2006, earnings for those in the top 1% of the income scale increased more than 200%.
Oh oh...another them CNN polls...this cannot be completely correct. confused

So tell me if the messia raises taxes, how is any of that going to get better?

Man Sandman, you have a hard time staying on task don't ya.

Item 1 talks about lost wages and lost economic opportunity.
Item 2 talks about the general population believing the country is headed in the wrong direction.
Item 3 talks about real wages for median income families dropping while the top 1% is increasing

And you ask

Quote:
So tell me if the messia raises taxes, how is any of that going to get better?

What does that question have to do with the post?

Description of Red Herring

A Red Herring is a fallacy in which an irrelevant topic is presented in order to divert attention from the original issue. The basic idea is to "win" an argument by leading attention away from the argument and to another topic. This sort of "reasoning" has the following form:

1. Topic A is under discussion.
2. Topic B is introduced under the guise of being relevant to topic A (when topic B is actually not relevant to topic A).
3. Topic A is abandoned.

This sort of "reasoning" is fallacious because merely changing the topic of discussion hardly counts as an argument against a claim.

Perhaps I'm just a dummy, but if the Dems raise business and Corporate taxes, the "man" is gonna have less money to dole out to the serfs. Yes?

...Just a thought?

If one were to say that a tax increase resulted in all the points in the post, then it would be relevant. However, all the items occurred without a tax increase thereby making the introduction of increased taxes a red herring.

Edit:
Plus the fact that implying that an increase in taxes would make things worse is pure speculation. History tells us that tax breaks to the wealthy do not work as pointed out in the post under discussion.

the topic of this post is how has our life changed.

I am not surprised the president of the United auto works would release that statement. They have done nothing to improve their situation. Here is a new flash, they may need to find there own job, without government assistance! WOW, what a concept, doing something for yourself.

Wages have fallen. Their conclusing is to blame someone else, corporate america, big oil, bush, republicans. They should try looking in the mirror, and instead of adding on their union fees and retirement inventments into our autos, take less, make less, and become more competitive. Or heck, leave your job and find another one. What is stopping them?

10 of thousands ahve lost their homes- Again, it would not be their fault, nope it is my responsibility, and big govt must help out. while I am at it lets buy them 2 homes.

Fuel costs are sky high - So the democratic response is set higher environmental standards on american manufactures, thus increasing production costs and limiting fuel supplies. So now fuel costs more, they don't want to drill, and we can't invest in new nucear plants. Ok, what do they want us to do? I know, invent in other technology. Great, that will help us out in 100 years.

Prospects for finding a good jobs are melting faster than polar ice. - I hear they have this thing called school, and at school you can get training for a new job. Ummm what a concept.

An April poll by CNN...81% of those surveyed believe our country is on the "wrong tract."

I can find polls that say the exact oposite, and wrong track is too loose of a term. And CNN? Yeah they are not biased.

Again, I am the victim, victim, victim. same old story, old message.
