My dad just bought a new Ranger Reatta 2050 and it came with a Humminbird 727 on the front and a 997c with SI and chip on the back.

Does anyone know the ins and outs of the interlink set up? Specifiacally, can you get the chip contours to show on the 727.

Second Question - Can you put a contour chip in the 727?

Thrid question - does he already have the interlink set up? The 727 is listed as "GPS ready", he has a puck antena on the front and rear and the GPS on the 727 seems to be working but the waypoints from the rear don't show up, maybe that setting is turned off?

Here's what I think is going on, he has the interlink, the 727 can't show contours through the interlink, the 727 doesn't accept a chip, and he has the "shared waypoint feature" turned off.

Any insight woudl be appreciated, thanks guys.

727 is chart plotter only, will not show maps, just a grid. The interlink will share/save waypoints. The interlink would only need one gps for both to use, sounds like each unit is seperate. To see if it is interlinked, hit menu when it is turning on and go to the System Status screen and see if Interlink is on.

kjgmh is correct.. the 727 is just a chart plotter, even if it wasnt, the depth contours is not shared, I have a 997 at my helm and a 987 up front, I have a chip in each to them, but they are linked.. the link pretty much is so that you only use one GPS reciever, and the two units share way points. So, if you see something cool on your SI you gps it and you can then go up to the front of the boat and see the waypoint you put on your SI unit.

Thanks for the quick replies guys. I think I got all the info I needed, it sounds like he does have the interlink and to get countours in the front he needs to buy a GPS unit and the chip.

Good info.

Muskie Junkie, I'd like to hear how your dad likes his 2050. I have the 1850 and after the 2050 came out I got a bad case of 2-foot fever. I really like my boat, I just think I'd like a bigger one even more grin

If he's in the market for a new GPS and chip you might want to check out my website. Earlier this year there were some Humminbird closeouts I had access to ---- I think they're gone now although if you want shoot me an email and I can do some checking.

He likes it (how could you not) if you had to point out issues the rear rod storage will only take 7' rods, and the center rod storage won't fit 8' rods. The convertable seating in the front is OK, it's made for fishing first and seating 2nd, which is probably what most people are looking for, I don't know what the front seating is like on the 1850s.

The tow bar for skiing and tubing is really well placed and made.

There is a TON of room in there. We were fishing with 3 adults and 4 kids once.

I think the only real negative would be the price tag, ouch.

When I got my 1850 you could get a 1 year old 620 for about the same price. The Reata and the 620 are so different in layout and features that they probably aren't competing with each other for sales. But with the 2050 it seemed to me like they made it kind of a crowded market niche ---- they had the cheaper 1850 for people that wanted that style boat, or the 620 for about the same price for people that wanted a 20 foot fishing boat. I've seen a few 2050s around but not nearly as many as when the 1850 hit the market. I like the 2050 a lot but like you said .... ouch grin Sure would like to have one though.
