that thing is cool looking. I saw one simalar to that in a bait store in Wisconsin and I think it was in Hayward that was quite a few years ago and I wasnt sure what it was.

I see those for sale on-line from time to time.
I don't know how well they work though.
As many of them that are out there you would think they work?

that looks more like a ice thongs to me then a spear. By looking at it, looks like it would make a huge slash in the water and be slower then the normal spears.

Like most other creative ways of catching fish, they are illegal in Minnesota.

We had one when I was a kid. As scary as they look, they don't work as well as a regular spear.

I don't know if they are legal or not for inland waters.

I do know the regs state they are not legal on SD/MN border waters and on the Rainy River Canada/MN border waters.

The bottom line is this thing is a spring gaff not a spear.

So is it legal to "spear" with a gaff?
