I know this comes up every year, and to be honest I'm kind of glad that I only head over to the Croix a handful of times.
I just can't believe how close these massive boats need to get to you, and in the dark none the less.
Last night we had a large one come by us at 3/4 plane and was no more than 3 boat lengths away.
I could see if there were a bunch of boats out there and they had to snake through them, but there was 1 other boat. So this cruiser had about 1/2 mile to the East and probably another 1/8th mile to the west, yet still has to buzz us.
Don't get it.

I think there just nosey and rude for the most part, not all but some of the big craft drivers enjoy laying a wall of water but soon the fishermen will once again be the soul boaters out and about

I agree with Walli1. Can't wait for the cruisers to go to dry dock. Shouldn't be long now and the river will be ours again!!

I don't believe most of the big boaters are rude, just totaly clueless. Most have no idea of the wake they put up or what it may be doing to others.

Some are rude intentionally, some don't care, and some don't know better. Just sit back and laugh at all the money that they are wasting on gas.

Fisherman, FYI Under Minnesota DNR Boating Guide I would like to introduce you to the LAWS. http://files.dnr.state.mn.us/rlp/regulations/boatwater/boatingguide.pdfPage 30 "Boating Prohibitions" It's Against the law. "TO operate a watercraft so that its wash or wake endangers, harasses, or interferes with any person or property. " I quoted this for you. I am Mille Lacs/ Lake of the woods walleye man, and I also have acess to a 30' on the St. Croix. If someone has negelected to obey those term and you have damage from a wake just get the boat number and report them. The Water patrol loves to have a reason to pull someone over and there more than happy to serve! VHF marine band is 16 distress 22a Non-emergency US coast guard.

Just about every boat over 25' on the St Croix does NOT have registration numbers on it, for one reason or another. Not sure if there is a provision in the law that allows larger boats to not show their reg numbers, or if they are all just breaking the law... Next time you are on the river, pay attention to these larger boats -- none will have reg numbers on em!

Most of the larger boats are documented with the Coast Guard. Banks require this for the loan. A documented vessel needs to have a name and port of call in minimum 4" letters on the transum. Because the documentation is a federal thing, they don't need state registration. If you wish to turn in a boater for any type of violation, just note the name.
