Since I've been on the road alot the past 6 months with the new job I hardly ever drive my '00 Silverado. But occasionally these past couple of months the "4WD Check Light" comes on. A mechanic told me that sometimes when the Chevys sit for awhile this happens and to just pull the fuse and put it back in to clear it.

Is this a common problem and is there a simple fix or should I have this looked at before winter?

Thanks!

If it's a push button, the switches have been known to go bad.

My 2003 Avalanche which would be the same system has been doing the same thing occasionaly the last few years.Had it checked the first time and was told it was real common and not to worry unless it stayed on or became more frequent. Haven't had any issues 4WD works fine when I need it.

I second the 4x4 push button. My 2000 Silverado has gone out twice.

I have a 2000 that did the same thing. Brought it in and was told most likely switch or some sensor in the transfer case. Mine was the sensor and was like $80 to replace. When I picked it up I asked how common the sensor failure was and was told very!
