Folks: Here are some pictures that I took from a camping trip that my 4 year old son (Carter) and I took two weekends ago. All I will say about the location is that we weren't in the BWCA, we weren't in CN, and we were only an hour to an hour-n-half from the range, and we were not on B'side. Saturday we mentioned to catch a couple of fish but with crappy weather, poor lighting, etc. I didn't get any pictures. These are from the following day (and from a different lake). Even though Carter has been doing all kinds of fishing with me for the last 2 years (including laker and salmon fishing in MI), this was his 1st laker that he held the rod and reeled in w/o any help from Dad. In fact, he refused it! It ended up being just under 4 lbs. [note from admin: please see forum guidelines before posting again. Thanks, lakerunner!] The next couple are me and him back at the house with his laker. Well even though he was excited he was tried after a long night of sitting up and listening to the loons, so he wanted to head back. Against Carter's judgement, Dad stopped to troll one other spot. I started with 200' of line out, when I got to the rod it was at 256' and when I was able to finally make some headway it was at 372'. When landed it was 33 1/2" and tipped the scales just under 20lbs. I don't know who had more fun, Dad or Carter. I was extremely proud of Carter--1st camping trip and 1st laker. The only problem is that all of his friends want to go now also!

Great fish. Keep taking your son and when he gets to be the age of my son, he will take you fishing.
