Try some of the smaller lakes & ponds. There are a lot of them in the south metro, many of them without boat launches, where you can catch quality fish from shore, especially in the spring & the fall.
Start with the DNR lakefinder & check out the smaller lakes. Then when you get bored, do what I & others do - scan an area with Google Earth or Mapquest, find a small body of water, grab a pole & small tackle box, & head off into the woods and/or subdivision. I've found some excellent largemouth in ponds no bigger than 3-4 acres in the south metro.
From shore, I'd vastly prefer these small ponds & lakes over the places I'd drop my boat - Crystal, Lac Lavon, etc.
Good luck!

Try normindale lake my son fished it as a teen and did very well. Normandale Lake in bloomington is a great place to shore fish...just not right now. I was at Normandale 3 days ago, the water is very low, the waterfall is at trickle...and weed mess everywhere, hopefully the with the rains, it'll go up. Wait a few more weeks, the weeds starts to go away and the fun begins again I need to build my biceps on catching carp!

When I was limited to shore fishing..... Pool 2 of da Sippi was a treat. Eyes, bass, crappies, pike, catfish and rough fish galore. 1oz weight and a hunk o crawler or a minnow. Look for deeper water with some current.
Hidden falls is what I'm talking about

Is there anywhere to park on prior and fish from shore? I drove around it the other day but could not find anywhere to park. I may have to check some of the smaller ponds out. Does anybody fish the vermillion around farmington?

The Vermillion is not for a flyfisherman. If that is what you are looking for check in Red wing, down by chatfield, or The kinnie in River falls. If you want to fish the vermillion with something else I would have no clue.
Good luck.

Well if anyone wants to join me, I'm hoping to try a small Eagan lake later this week from the canoe. We can fish 3 of us. Maybe Thursday night?

Quetico, I'd love to get out, but am already fishing with some buddies out of the motorized contraption Thursday night. If you're up for a little canoe time this weekend or early next week, let me know.
