My vote would be for McCain for that reason alone. The other reason is a little lady from Alaska. Believe it or not guys, Women get things done in politics. Usually it's not in the spotlight, it's back in the office under the desk or.........you know, but Women know how to get things done. I'm just happy that I agree with Palin on most things, otherwise she would be easy to dislike.

I wont be voting for mcain because we need to get rid of ignorant white trash, not put them in power!!!!!!!!!!!

upnorth, if I wasn't walking out the door, I'd rewrite the entire thing from a raving liberal's point of view. Maybe after a couple of beers tonight. smile

Can someone please explain why the fair and balanced media like MSNBC and CNN isn't all over the ties of Obama and William Ayers?

This guy was part of a group that set bombs at the NYC Police Headquarters, the Pentagon, and U.S. Capitol for crying out loud!! In 1995 the first organizing meeting for Obama's state Senate campaign was held in Ayers's apartment! Still, the media pounces on Governor Palin and the only minuscule issues they can dig up on her and her family, yet Obama's relations to a terrorist barely get mentioned.

People may complain about the past eight years and believe they will get something different by voting for Obama, but I'd rather take my chances with McCain/Palin instead of electing someone who's future secretary of defense used to play with bombs and attacked important institutions of this country.

Oh well, at least he'll tax those nasty wealthy people that everyone is jealous of. That'll show'em.

Makes you wonder how anyone with any brains would EVER vote Democrat, doesn't it?

Makes you wonder how anyone with any brains would type up and pass on such garbage. It is the same mindless B.S. that is spewed on Limbaugh, Hannity and Savage.

My freedom of speech was no more infringed upon under the last Democrat president as it has been for the last eight years (none).

I had no more difficulty purchasing fire arms when Clinton was in office than I have when Bush was in office and even despite the "sky is falling" mentality that drummed up similar garbage two years ago when the Dems took control of the house I have not had any of my guns taken away from me.

Quote:
I'm voting Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending my money than I would.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe that business should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give the rest away to the government for redistribution as THEY see fit.

It is funny that under the last Democrat president the rich got richer (despite all that money he took from them) and the economy did well.

Quote:
I'm voting Democrat because when we pull out of Iraq I trust that the bad guys will stop what they're doing because they now think we're good people.

This is just dumb because no one thinks this way. The "bad guys" won't stop what they're doing if the U.S. Military pulls out of Iraq and here is a news flash... the "bad guys" won't stop what they are doing if the U.S. Military stays in Iraq. Not all of the bad guys are in Iraq.

Quote:
I'm voting Democrat because I believe that when the terrorists don't have to hide from us over there, and when they come over here...

What political party did the president belong to on August 6, 2001? What political party did the president belong to on September 11, 2001?

Quote:
I'm voting Democrat because I believe oil companies' profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn't.

Yup, it is a shame to take more money to pay for roads and bridges a majority of us use rather than line to pockets of a few people.

If some of the point of this email was to point out hypocrasy why didn't in include the fact that the Republican, compasionate CONSERVATIVE president for the last seven years has allowed the national debt to balloon to over $9 trillion. The liberal tax and spend president before him actually saw budget surplusses rather than budget deficits. The national debt went up less than $2 trillion under Clinton and has gone up nearly $4 trillion under Bush.

This type of email would be fine it people took it for what it was, a jab, and said "Yeah, that's funny," no matter if it was Dems taking a shot at Repubs or Repubs taking a shot at Dems. But unfortunately there are those who take it at face value and don't take the time to think critically about it and ask the question "Why would some one say this and what is there to back it up?" Instead there are those with a less than stellar intellect who believe in is entirely true and then base their vote on it.

If I sound a little peeved it is because I am. It is an election year, a big one, and this kind of garbage doesn't discuss the real issues and it doesn't add to the debate of who makes a better candidate for any office. I don't care whose 17 year-old daughter is pregnant. I don't care whose middle name is over emphasized in an attempt to generate a false impression of his choice of religion in order to instill fear. I don't care whose wife has made a bunch of money on beer.

Casey, while you don't care about this stuff, far, far too many people do.

As misguided as some of the fine folk on this board are, at least they're paying attention. The majority of Americans are only peripherally aware of the issues & might get their 45 seconds of politics for the day watching the nightly news. So all that little stuff, the politics, mini-scandals, attack ads, etc. ad nauseum - work.

Because people don't pay attention. And chain emails like that reinforce folks stereotypes about Democrats. Kind of like saying the GOP is "fiscally conservative". You repeat a lie often enough & it becomes truth.

I will fix this to make it "flow" with the thread topic just for shackbash:

Not sure who I will vote for. Here is why:

I sent the McCain camp an email asking for clarification on this tax issue about 2 weeks ago and I have not heard back. I'm sure I will not hear back.

Remember, when you vote for McCain, you are telling the R party that it is OK to tax your health insurance benefit. He wants that benefit added to your income so it can be taxed as income. I know for us that is a $1,300 benefit since we get a family plan from my employer. So now, my income just went up $15,600 all of which will now be taxed as income. That is over $4,200 in NEW taxes for us at 28%.

Great for the rich, great for the poor since most have no health care anyway and the middle class will get hit the hardest.

Something to think about.

If this wasn't so poorly written, I would swear this is a completely racist statement. Are the mods off on Saturday or something?

Poorly written. lol Oh well, the statement shouldn't be taken as what you said. I said minority. That is not a racist statement.

This is why people shouldn't talk politics. There are too many people talking that can do nothing about anything. They just whine if things don't go their way....Dems.

Carry on. I didn't mean any harm.

Maximum12:

Here you go. This is not the only source were I have read it. It is an interesting "new" tax that gets very little coverage but will prove to be a big tax for those that get the benefit.

"One issue that hasn’t gotten nearly the widespread attention it deserves is that in the context of John McCain’s overall policy for steep tax cuts for high-income Americans he’s also proposing a very significant tax increase on the broad group of people who receive health insurance through their employers. Specifically, at the moment compensation you receive from your employer in the form of money is subject to income tax, but compensation you receive from your employer in the form of employer contributions to health insurance premiums is not taxed. McCain proposes to change this and start subjecting those benefits to taxation. Some people, obviously, don’t have employer provided health insurance in which case this won’t make any difference to them. But for those of us who do get insurance through work, this is a very big increase."

Here are a couple so people can't say, "They are biased in their reporting......".

Dude I am confused. Please clarify how that statement was meant to be taken. If your statement was meant to say, "I am worried and scared that there are this many people willing to vote for a minority President" I guess I don't know any other way to take it.

I am thinking (and hoping) he just typed it up wrong. Hopefully the statement didn't really get the point he was trying to make across in an effective manner. I think what he may have meant to say is that he is worried that people would vote for someone just because they are a minority.

With that said, the statement is also not one of any intelligence or merritt. There may be some that are voting for Obama just for that reason but I believe most people who vote for him will do so because they agree with his policies and positions. Just like I don't think most people who vote for the McCain/Palin ticket will vote that way just because Palin is a woman.

If I am wrong and he really meant it as he typed it, well... how did that line from Forest Gump go, "Stupid is as stupid does." crazy

I don't know if this was the intent of Roofer's statement, but I have a feeling that there are a lot of people who want to vote for Obama just to say they were the first ones to have a minority President. To further that point, I believe the selfish baby boomer generation is mostly to blame for that thinking. Maybe it's guilt for what they did in the 60's, I don't know, but it's been said that is the logic behind for some of those baby boomers voting for Barrrrrrrrrrrack.

The similar argument has been made for the global warming/green craze. Baby boomers are trying to repent for their sins of the past by trying to go green in an attempt to feel good about themselves. All I know is that there are a lot of churches in towns all across the country where they can go if they feel that bad, and it would save the rest of us a lot of money and headaches from having this nonsense shoved down our throats unnecessarily.

Woof! edgy people. I will take back my statement. I guess I am just not educated enough to have a conversation here. Makes you wonder though, doesn't it.......There are MANY MANY people out there who vote and have no idea at all what they are even voting for.
