Shame this hasn't gotten more coverage.
From the AP: The Tax Policy Center, a think tank run jointly by the Brookings Institution and the Urban Institute, concluded that Obama's plan would increase after-tax income for middle-income taxpayers by about 5 percent by 2012, or nearly $2,200 annually. McCain's plan, which cuts taxes across all income levels, would raise after tax-income for middle-income taxpayers by 3 percent, the center concluded.
If you're middle class you will recieve a bigger tax cut under an Obama presidency.

TAX CUTS EXPLAINED
Because it's the election season, let's put tax cuts in terms everyone can understand.
Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:
The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing. The fifth would pay $1. The sixth would pay $3. The seventh would pay $7. The eighth would pay $12. The ninth would pay $18. The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59. ...
I posted it once before but I will post it again, another side of the tax cut issue
Interestingly enough if you took this analogy one step further and allocated the $100 the same way wealth is distributed it would go something like this(and using the dinner bill):
The first four men(the poorest)would have $0.20 (or 5 cents each. They would each get to keep their 5 cents)
The next two would have $3.80 (or $1.90 each. Together they would not have enough to cover their portion of the bill. They would be about 20 cents short (Hey, maybe the poor guys could give them their $0.20, they didn't pay anything anyways.) Seperately the fifth guy would be able to cover his bill and have 90 cents left for some Tic Tacs. The sixth guy would be $1.10 short
The seventh and eighth would have $11.30 (or $5.65 each not enough to cover their share of the bill)
The ninth would have $13.40 (wouldn't have enough to cover his end of the bill either)
The tenth(the richest man) would have $71.00 (he would cover his bill and have $12 left)
I think this is probably a good illustration of how the middle is getting the shaft (not the poor and not the wealthy).

I could'nt agree more!
If you didn't hear anything that appealed to you last night during her speech, you should consider moving to Mexico.
last night was about who she was and some of the issues mixed with humor, snap wit and humility.
the traditional role of the VP is to attack and what a job she did. I can't wait to see her in the debate forum with the opposition.
she probably garnerd about 25 million votes just with the acknowlegment of special needs parents and kids that will have a freind in the white house if elected.
She covered all the bases well after drilling it out of the park. This is only a prediction but the Obama campain will probably get very nasty with their backs aginst the wall now.
That's just standard operating procedure in the handbook.
God bless america!

Don't try to explain that. It will never fly here.
Here is how in touch McCain is. For those of you on this board who are trying hard to make ends meet, keep the house, keep the job, pay bills and the like. In a recent interview, McCain did not even know how many houses he owns! I wish I had that problem.
I can honestly say that I will most likely not even exercise my right to vote in November. It will not matter in the long run. I'm middle class so no matter who gets in office I will get screwed in the long run anyway.

This is pretty much all MSNBC does every night. Of course THEY'RE not a partisan news organisation. Watch any RNC coverage from MSNBC? Ever hear of Keith Olbermann?
I can not defend MSNBC or Keith Olberman and I do see what you are saying. I do agree with you on Olberman. Have not watch the RNC on MSNBC.

What is your definition of wealthy, and at what point does that free ride kick in. I only ask because I will work 6 jobs if I could get to that point.
I think its when you make more than 5 million a year. At least thats what John McCain thinks.
-------- I have been watching the convention pretty consistently, and thought she had a well prepared speech. The only thing missing (not only from her speech but the whole convention) was any mention of what they would do for the country. It seems so much about scaring people away from Obama, rather than offering a valid alternative.
Also, as Cheney has shown us over the last 8 years do we really need a pit bull (even with lipstick) in the White House?
Should be interesting though, as not only has McCain castrated the experience argument against Obama; with his pick of Palin he has made the Obama/Biden ticket the "less risky" ticket.
Also, with Palin's purpose of being a symbol/image of change it could actually reinforce Obama's change message as he is more closely associated with it.
Lastly, Palin seems to be a badly constructed characture of the old tired cliche that I was hoping we would finally be able to bury. Like Colbert, but she takes herself seriously. Hopefully Americans can see through the bad joke.
Also, with Palin's purpose of being a symbol/image of change it could actually reinforce Obama's change message as he is more closely associated with it.
But Palin isn't really calling for any change, she defines change as "more of the same, but more sarcastic and faster and looser with the truth than Bush and Co..
