Been kinda slow in here lately, lets get a thread going on everyone's plans for fall fishing. Tactics, species, and lakes.

I'll be chasing walleyes, mostly in the Willmar area as I am a student at the highly acclaimed Ridgwater college....anyways...Diamond and Green Lake are my main two targets this year. I already have some go to spots on Diamond, looking to learn Green lake better. In the Mankato area I will hopefully hit Madison and Tetonka a few more times.

For tactics I always look shallow first, casting SSR's and Husky jerk-baits, or a Jig and Minnow once the water really cools down. I look to areas adjacent to deep water and steep breaks, preferablly rocks or hard bottom areas that are holding baitfish. If I can't locate shallow fish, I like to move off into deeper water and pull Shad Raps anywhere from 9-15 ft depending on the lake. Once fish are located, a large chub or shiner on a lindy rig is tough to beat. I also will work jigs up a steep break line. Something I want to try more of this fall is roaming out over deeper water, 20'+ when I can't find any fish relating to structure. Looking at dragging Deep Tail Dancers or Reef Runners.

I will be making my first trip to Mille Lacs for the fall trolling bite, so I'm real excited about that. Also making my first trip out to Lake Sarah in a few weeks. Looks to be a real full fall, not leaving much time for duck's, and the pheasants can wait till the lakes freeze up.

Whats everyone else planning on till freeze up?

I'd like to and it's still in the cards but it's tough for me to plan anything right now. Stay tuned...

i know i'm missing out, but i have never had the opportunities to hit the fall eyes. mainly because my family has land in western MN and everything after oct 10=ringnecks, and lots of em. kinda hard to CPR them, though.

perhaps i need to exchange a pheasant trip to western MN in exchange for a boat spot in a fall walleye trip. kinda hard though, when life revolves around the baby right now

I'll be out, but I gotta tell you, my 13 month old Springer just did a nice 100 yd plus retrieve on a wounded pigeon on Monday in some DEEP grass and is shaping up very nicely for "fesent seezon."

Funny how many invitations for hunting you start getting when they find out you have a trained hunting hound...

But I imagine I'll get the boat in at least a couple times a week ...

Or how many friends you make when people find out you have a hound and some world class bird land! Has that dog pulled off a quadruple point and retrieve yet?

Those launch trips can be pretty fun and not to expensive either.

very true, but im just as guilty fishing wise without having a boat.

with 8 guys last year on the sunday of opener we finished in 26 minutes. it taught us a lesson for the season that if we wanted to have more fun you let a ton of roosters go and pick your shots. there wasnt a time last year where we didn't limit out
