Hi! I have a 94 Polaris Storm 800. I want to replace the track on it. I have very little experience working on sleds. I have removed the suspension, opened up the chain case and removed the gear from the drive shaft. I removed the bearing from the left side of the shaft also. I am having trouble getting the darn shaft to come out of there. Is there some trick that I need to know to accomplish this task? Thanks in advance for any help!

Dustin

Dustin, you will need to remove the bolts that hold the chaincase on and slide the chaincase out in order to get the drivers out. You might even have to spread the tunnel apart a little bit on that side. It's a pain in the A_-- but once you do then it should come right out. If memory serves me correct there might be a coolant hose down by the bottom of the chaincase as well, if so do yourself a favor and just unclamp it and get it out of the way, it will be faster in the long run, a bit more messy but you'll be dirty anyway!! Just did one on an 800 XCR last year...same thing! Since your going to have the chaincase out, I would recommend replacing the bearings top and bottom and replace the bearing on the drive shaft as well, since your at it then you should be good to go for a while! Oh ya...make sure you put the track in the right way when you re-install, you wont want to go through all that work again if you put it in backwards. There is an arrow on the track that tells you the direction of rotation. Good Luck and hollar back if you need more help, that's what we're here for! wink

You do have to remove the drive case. Once you've done that, pound the shaft from the PTO side to get it out. There may be set screws holding the bearings on as well especially on the drive cog. Really not a hard job and like everything else gets easier each time.

Thanks for the help! When I was looking at it, I thought I might have to pull the chain case off, but I wanted to hear that from someone who had done this already....thanks! I will try to get that out on Saturday if I get time

I guess I was able to get at it before Saturday! After moving the chain case, the track came right out! Now,...We'll see if I can get it all back together in a few days when my parts arrive, haha. Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the info! I'm sure that will some in handy some day! I will have to venture down the street and meet the neighbors! I have all the parts here, I just have stuff going on every day this week. I might get back to working on it Sunday or Monday.
