I am a student at Winona State and I'm looking for some places to do some shore fishing. I have been to Lake Winona and the pond by the airport and have had some success. Any tips or advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

what do you like to fish for? I am also a wsu student and spend most my time on the river. They have a couple places to fish off shore on prairie island, I would recommend the spill way or one of the boat landings along that road. Js6bubba first of all let me welcome you to HSO the best outdoors site on the net here you will find some of the best group of outdoorsman this fine state has to offer.If you read some of the post here and in the pool 4-11 fourm you will find some great imfo.I myself do a great deal of shore fishing from late Sept.thru Dec.or till there is ice then i fish the ice.I Myself am a die hard walleye guy year round im after them.There are plenty of spots along the river you can catch just about any thing all depends what your after.Homer trusle you can catch just about anything and its only a mile or 2 south of Winona another spot is there is a fishing float just over the main bridge up by lock & dam 5a allways fish around there.Lake Winona has some very nice fish in it may have to weed thru them but there are some dandys in there.Mn city boat club has some great panfishing in it.The list go's on and on there are many spots around here to try just pull over any where along the river that may look good to you and throw a line out you just never know what you may catch.Good luck once again welcome to HSO.

thanks for the help. i prefer to bass fish but will take anything i can get. i went to lake winona a couple days ago and caught a few bass on top waters. spent a couple hours each of the past two days at the homer trestle, caught a couple smallies, bunch of bluegills, and some sheepshead.

me??? nope i am from WI and go to school in winona.

also, i would suggest you get a trout stamp. tons of good streams in winona county. if you go back in the archives, you'll see this same post come up every 6 months or so. might be some more info in there. it's been years since i was a shore fisher there.

Put on an old pair of shoes and some shorts and wade out in Lake WInona in the evening. Throw Zoom flukes for bass and hang on. USed to do it a few years ago all the time. Plus on a nice evening, the scenery can be spectacular (especially during school).! So be sure to wear sunglasses

Shame shame, checking out the college girls....Okay, nevermind, I guess I did end up marrying one of those Winona State girls.

That would be just one of the perks that come along with fishing lake Winona if your not getting fish there is allways looking a the scenery around you
