Yes chub, SIGs like Greenpeace will get your money wink

Has anyone here ever applied for an environmental grant or special money? How about a college scholarship? Seems to work for universities, scholarship boards, NGOs, and state agencies to require proposals that include specific plans with dates, goals, and budgets. Jaded doesn't begin to describe one that can't trust fellow outdoor constituents on the committee to read through a pile of applications and make a prudent decision. Gov't isn't all scam, corruption, and inefficiency as some would lead you to believe.

Ya see da_chise, it's like this... we're talking a WHOLE lot of money involved here. Not to say there wouldn't be some prudent decisions made, but when your talking about a WHOLE lot of money up for grabs, Gov't., special interests et. al., there always seems to be some type of "corruption and inefficiency" involved.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not 100% against this thing yet. I'm quite undecieded. At this point, I'm leaning against it, but we'll see.

...Thing that gets me is, we're talking about throwing a WHOLE lot of money at something, that we've been supposedly paying for all along. There's no doubt that some good things will come of this. But it's the Pandoras box aspect of it that worries me.

What's the money going to do? Is it going to plug drain tiles? Get farmers(big business), to change their practices? Stock more walleyes in duck sloughs? Build a paved bike trail through Hunterville swamp? "Clean up our waters", ...drain them all and scrape all the mercury tainted sediment off the bottom?

It would be nice to see what they plan to accomplish, aside from generalities.

Gov't isn't all scam, corruption, and inefficiency as some would lead you to believe.

This thing started as a FUBU(lol), for us, by us, deal. There were those in the Gov't that said no way, not without our share(see Arts and Cultural Heritage). Not really a scam, not really corruption, not really inefficiency, but something about that isn't right.

Money and Politics...

I would think it's a little tough for the government to go out on a limb and set up a plan on exactly what and where the money will precisely go to when it's still up in the air as to whether or not the money will even be there.

I beleive that's what the OVERSIGHT committee will be for. To PROPERLY distribute the money to those that have a solid plan in place on how it will be spent.

Do you think that in order to make the committee one would have to be a bobblehead? Yes...yes...yes...yes...yes...yes...

First of all, I doubt that any of the comments on this thread have been posted by people who actually know what the North American Wildlife Enforcement Officers' Association is. So to enlighten you, it is an organization comprised of approximately 8,000 members from the U.S. and Canada. It has been in existence for over 25 years. It's annual conference is its primary fund raiser. These funds are required for operational expenditures, cross-jurisdictional training and communications.

Not one member of this association has ever made one cent from being involved with hosting the annual conference. Active members spend countless volunteer hours keeping communication lines open, developing training agendas, meeting government and NGO officials to represent the importance of natural resource law enforcement.

At no point in 25+ years has any government (State, Provincial or Federal) had any expectation of recouping money spent towards hosting the annual conference or subsidizing their officers when attending conferences or other professional development activities.

Many of you are hung up on $300,000 being spent but fail to understand that the annual conference generates $2,000,000+ for the host State or Province.

British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario have hosted it twice since 1984. Pennsylvania is hosting it for the second time in 2010. Saskatchewan is hosting the annual conference for the 3rd time in 2011. Host agency Governments have totally supported this annual conference because they see the benefits. Most if not all Jurisdictions send officers at government expense.

That your State's resources may have been left unprotected for a couple of days is as red as a herring can be. If you actually believe that poachers had the run of the State for a few days then you are completely naive or ignorant. There are always officers who don't attend the annual conference. They are there to respond to calls and patrol as usual.

This whole persecution smacks of disgruntled employees determined to bring down members of the finest profession. That uniformed officers solicited donations from any one they could think of with the final objective of raising awareness of natural resource law enforcement is a feather in an agency's cap. These officers made thousands of public contacts and more people know about resource law enforcement because of that. Kudos to the senior government officials who saw beyond purposely ambiguous policies that inhibit growth.

Minnesota C.O.s have been left on a lurch because of a or some nose out of joint employees. Your officers are some of the most dedicated law enforcement professionals on the Continent. Do not accept the fact that a witch hunt was conducted to appease an or some individuals with their own agendas.
