My wife and I are headed to Winnie a week from today - she's from MN and I'm from MI and we now live in MI but "come home" as she says, as much as we can to MN. We're staying on east end at Williams Narrows - any current report would really be helpful if you wouldn't mind giving one. We're used to fishing Erie and Saginaw bay where guys share coordinates all the time, I don't suppose anyone would have any spots on the lake they would recommend..? I've got the MN lakemaster chip but I've never been to Winnie, my wife's been once on West end (McArdles) Anyway, thanks in advance if you have any current reports to share, like I said we'll be up there next thursday.. :-)

winnie has been good for eyes with the so. wind we have been in muskie bay in the weeds with jig and minnow or on muskie bar with crawlers where the wind is is where the fish have been biting

I would take Jason's advise. The long range forcast is for cooler weather next week...that will probably mean a NW wind. I would drift along the southeast side of the lake and look for weed patches on the breaklines. If the wind happens to be southerly, I would look toward the rocks on the North shore. Nothing too fancy...jig and minnow have produced all year. Good luck

i think what jason is saying is fish the southern bars and southern end on south wind and fish the west and north side on a NW wind. its just the opposite of what you would think when it comes to winnie from what i've found as well.......

fish the southern end with a south wind? you are right in saying that's opposite of what I'd normally do? wouldn't you fish the opposite shore where the bait fish are stacking up? thanks again for the advice - I think we'll see what the winds like when we get there, does sounds like the temps are going to drop and it might be a good walleye chop out there - we're looking forward to it - any reports from this weekend? not sure what it's been like in MN but most likely like here with a big high pressure with calm and hot conditions, I'm ready for some cooler temps and fish turning back on... appreciate you guys responding, great to have sites like this available, you ever head to Erie or Saginaw bay I've got lots of contacts at each...

sat and sunday we were on the east side by birches and all the way to muskie bay did well. caught some on cranks and then switched to jig and minnow in 8-10 ft
one reason we head to the south and east side is the wind was too strong to fish anywhere else

Yeah i know it sounds backwards but i have seen it time and time again. When we head up we fish the west side. The worst wind is anything from the east. The best is a west wind blowing out into the lake or a northwest wind almost blowing parallel with the shore. Doesnt make sense. Little stoney point on the south side has always been best for me on a south wind as well as the bars extending out from the point. Same with Moses and Sugar bars. I keep logs on all my fishing and winnie breaks more "rules" than any lake i've seen. When you are up there and you fish the windblown stuff and it doesnt seem to work try to fish areas where the wind is doing the opposite, blowing parallel with shore or even out to the lake. It always works for me.
