So my in-laws are carrying my wife and myself up to Bluefin Bay on Superior. The ladies will be shopping and i will be fishing with my brother in law. anyways, i was was wondering what my chances are with fly fishing up there. The date we'll be going is 9/5/08-9/7/08. Is there a chance at throwing the fat line at some pinks or coasters? or will i be hiking back into the rivers for browns and brooks? maybe i should play it safe and bring all my gear.
Do the "runs" if any at all, vary like they do up and down the northshore like in the fall.
We are taking two vehicles so i do have the option of being mobile.

all my other northshore trips have always fell threw but this one is pretty much set in concrete.
Any help would be nice and greatly appreciated.

Not sure if you posted this in the BWCA-DULUTH forum as well, but you'll get some great info over there. You may be into some pinks at that time, I think that's about the time we started getting into them last year. You'll be able to cast from the mouths as well and pick up some fish that way too. Good luck!

i don't know what the rivers are running like up there, but if the summer has been similar to the twin cities', then hope for a little more rain and the fish should be going for ya.......

pinks should be around..... coasters are always a crapshoot, but if there are some in the area, they should be around the rivers that time o year......

ya, just talked to some folks who were just up there and the rivers are low..... could be a little tough, but you might still find something around.... there's always the breakwalls if you bring some spin gear.....

Rivers are bone dry on the north shore, i drive from Duluth to Gooseberry every day and have yet to see anything moving up yet. It will stay this way until we get a couple good days of rain.

hopefully it rains before we get there then. I checked the forecast and theres a chance for it to rain on tuesday and wednesday i believe. maybe it will...maybe it wont. i never trust the forecast anyways.
My buddy said he did find trout holding the deeper pools up the rivers and he was also able to land his first trout(bow) on a fly rod. so if all else fails ill hike to find a pool or two.

If rivers are too low...head over to Sawbill and toss some streamers for smallies. Pretty good fishin on that lake if you know where to look (think mouth of streams).
