Pain Enterprise located on east side.

They are really cool, no need for advance orders, just call them for hours and walk-in. It's really cheap, I think $5 for a 10 lbs block. You are gonna want at least 4-5 blocks. Our 2 blocks melted overnight so we had to go get local regular ice. You won't have that luxury up there.

It all depends on how its packed, what kind of cooler, and how often its opened. I have upgraded just about all my coolers to five day coolers. Three five pound blocks of regular ice in the bottom will last longer than five days in the food cooler that only gets opened three times a day. The beverage cooler which is still a standard cooler will go through two blocks of regular ice and about 10# of cubes in less than three days.

The dry ice guys guys that I have talked to recommend using the dry ice to keep the ice frozen rather than keep your food cool. Some of them recommend putting the dry ice under the regular ice, some say put it in top with an insulating layer between the dry ice and the food.

I have heard of making a mini-cooler out of pink insulation and filling it with dry ice and frozen items like ice cream and sticking it into a cooler. Again depending on how big it is and how much dry ice you use will factor in how long your ice cream stays frozen. I had planned on experimenting with that this summer but like all the plans I make, it didn't work out.

The yellow pages are a great place to start for dry ice vender's. Look under ice and there are several listed.

JAsons Dry Ice on University ave just east of 280 by the amtrac station. I have had dry ice last about 5 days on a BWCA trip. The key I have found is to minimize the amount of times you open it per day.

I second "Pain Enterprises" on the east side of St. Paul.
My advice is to call them first to confirm their hours.
Good guys, reasonably priced dry ice!!!
