we fished down river of the ford dam last weekend, only out for a bit but my gf caught a walleye and a sauger pulling shallow running shads....they were pretty small. plenty of smallies around though

walleye fishing has slowed down for me...starting six weeks ago and trending down since then. i can still pick up a few occassionally....but i dont have any techniques for august fishing when the water/current is so low and the water is above 80 degrees. switched to fishin for smallies lately.

fat bassman,
have you been getting any decent smallies down there...last couple times we went down there and caught smallies they were all under a pound. i have found the smallie fishing to be way better on the st croix just north of the confluence on the mn side.

hey WH,
I should've clarified. I switched to fishin for smallies on the upper mississippi. Can't wait until the water starts coolin down though so I can start fishin pool 2 again for eye's. I've never fished specifically for smallies in pool 2,3 or the st. croix....but there must be a few sows swimming in there!

yeah there are sum big ones in the croix. me and my dad were fishing by the kinni and we each pulled in 5 pounders off 1 rock pile. and another day we went all the way up the croix to where you cant take your boat past and had the best day of smallie and pike fishing ive ever had

Went down to one of my shorefishing spots today trying to pick up a few walleyes. Nothin but some smallies and a small northern. That spot is usually good for a few walleyes but nothing happening. I was throwing x raps with long pauses between jerk-baits. I usually use live bait, not sure if that was the problem.
