Second trip this year to Kab. We've been looking for big pike with little success. No one really seems that interested in fishing them (or at least not in talking about it). Does anybody have any ideas? I know that anyone can find the small ones, but I'm looking for info on 4#+ guys. Thanks.

Finding the biggies at this time of year is tough. Your best bet would be deep structured reefs, sunken humps or open water relating to large schools of bait. If you want to stay away from the 4-8 pounders I wouldn't bother fishing anything shallower than 20 feet. You may also want to try Rainy or Sand Point. They seem to be your best bet for Pike. I've caught a lot of pike on Namakin, but not much for size. Locals may be able to give you some better advice. I only get up there two or three times a year, but that's the best advice I can give you.

Dock Boy,

What depth did they get those pike in? Were they throwing big lures and actually targeting pike? Did they release them? Just curious...

Hockey Guy, They were using big spinnerbaits. Had most of there luck on white. Depths of 10-15ft spots that has easy access to deeper water and yest they were targeting them. They release the two smaller and the 46in 23iber is going on the wall. They were happy.

It's not illegal to keep a big fish. It's the choice of the fisherman or women if he or she wants to keep the fish or not.

Sledneck, hopefully one day soon those larger fish will have better protection and instead of taking the dead pics on the dock they will be catch-n-release pics on a boat. I mean seriously, who wants to eat a 40-50 inch northern? And if you really need a mount, get a replica.

Hopefully Pike will get the same respect as musky one day.

Are you implying if a person keeps a large fish and mounts it they don't respect the species?c63

15 feet to 20 feet is what I've been told the northern are at up there, I have only caught a few by mistake while I was walleye fishing up there. BBB
