Interesting little poll but I have heard some of the most liberal folks I know refer to themselves as "middle of the road".
If where they are at is the middle I can't get far enough to the right.

I'm with DinkaDunk. I used to consider myself republican, back when republicans were the party of less government in people's lives. Then the republican party abandoned that principle.
Now I am an ardent libertarian. And there is nothing middle-of-the road about it. so where would you like to place your vote in this thread? liberal, middle of the road, or conservative?

George Will defined the difference between liberals and conservatives this way: Conservatives favor individual liberty, freedom and privacy and are willing to accept the inevitable inequality that comes from it. Liberals tend to favor equality, and are willing to sacrifice individual liberty, privacy and freedom to attain it. In that definition, I consider myself very conservative. But do not let that be confused with the current republican party, which continues to accept inequality, but seems to have no problem violating individual liberty and privacy. The current republican party has no base principle left. So while I understand your desire to keep the poll simple, I am going to take issue with the limited choices presented of political ideology, restricting choices to current inadequate labels. That is part of the problem with politics today...you are expected to fit into one party or the other, and when you do get the label, you are expected/assumed to hold every viewpoint held by that party as outlined in their (often self-contradicting) party platforms. I don't see how any thinking individual can buy in to any party's political platform in its entirety...
