Just got back from V on Sat. We fished the east end, ended up boating a 27" and 37". Seen a 46" caught while fishing smallies. Had around a 40" fish on while fishing smallies, she took my senko in about 2 feet of water, had her on for about a minute, she then turned and cut the line. Had 2 follows, around a 36" and a 40" with a senko also. Seen fish on rock piles and shorelines. Fished Stuntz but never seen a fish. Brother seen a few fish in Pike Bay, had one snap at his topwater but missed. We did see a lot of fish, a few would follow but nothing was too interested, most were just laying there. Water surface temps ranged from 36 on Monday to 73 on Friday.
Good luck to you, hope you boat a few big girls.

I figured with the lake being behind that they would be just moving out of post spawn. Looks like there are some exciting weeks ahead of the muskie hunters on vermilion.
I give it about a week or two for things to hit there prime.

Good luck to all of you we are heading up to do some pike and musky fishing on Vermilion the 23rd of August. This is our first trip up there and I can't wait to get up there. I have heard a lot of good things about the lake. The only reason I ask for advice on here is because we have never been there. When I get back I will definitely leave a report. Once again good luck. Where is everyone staying? East or West. We are staying at Spring Bay Resort on the west end.

You will love the Lake. I don't live there. but have fished it(West end) probably 15 times(several days each time) in summer and winter and am returning after a 2 year hiatus. Last time i topped out with only 2 muskies(I'd guess about 20=25lbs each) and a 43 inch Northern--all released. The fish are there. I grew up in the Brainerd area and fish there about 30 days per year, but, Vermillion is unique. lots of nice fish--if you find them and they cooperate. Don't be afraid to relax, use your trolling motor to quietly cruise over some weedy areas near deeper water--or just drift, and on a clear day you'll see the big boys and girls just resting. Probably won't bite, but to see a mUskie that doesn't care is either frustrating--or relaxing.
Also, enjoy the loon shows as they play, the eagles, and even the buzzards.
You'll find fish. best, Wahoo

The big v is a structure lake, throw at all of the bowies. Obviously some spots are better then others, like Wahoo said, Take a look at your topo map and isolate islands and bowies that have deep water cutting adjacent to them. If you can locate these areas and they have cabbage, weeds, or bulrushes then you are in biz. The majority of times you will be throwing at just rock points, bowies, or sunken islands with no vegetation in mid aug, alot of fish are moving back and forth from deap water to rocky structure this time of year. But there are some nice cabage lines too, check out the cabage line out on Van Riper. It can be daunting but if you study the map you will be able to pick out a milk run before you even get on the lake. Make that run the first day and eliminate bad locations, ask around for a couple of new spots and by the last day you will have a nice milk run put together.
Just dont stop casting and try to cover the larger flats and weed edges by power troling safty pins and cowgirls. You might want to also downsize your bucktails the first day or so and focus more on burning your baits and covering water.
Good luck bro, I hope you catch a 50.

Ya, you will love the lake. Keep an eye out for the bald eagles.
