I am heading to leech for the first time on Mon. July 21 for the week. Does anyone have any tips for a first timer. What type of cranks work the best? Leeches, crawlers spinners or rigs? Any area I should focus on. I have a six and a three year old to keep occupied. Any info would be great.

I went there on the 9th and today. If the kids are going to fish find a hump or a rock hump and slip bobber around it. make sure it is next to 14 to 16 ft of water. I have got some in 12 but deeper seems to be better. Rigging with crawlers has been best for me. 3ft snell. Some bites have been very soft and some slam it. We had 20 on the 9th in about 4 hours, 4 decent keepers and 3 or 4 an the smallish side and the rest were about 19 to 24. Today the same pattern and about 15 fish from 9:30 to 4:30 2 decent keepers and nothing small the rest were over 20 we had 4 that were real nice. I didn't measure them but I would say 25 to 26. You don't need wind. They are scattered along the breaks but they seem to be relating to humps in better numbers to me.

P.S. I won't do this for everyone but since you are taking Kids fishing e-mail me at droach@brainerd.net and If you promise not to tell anyone I will tell you the area I was fishing.

Just about any break has fish on them in the evening. I was up there for a couple weeks and it was not uncommon to have 15-25 walleyes in a matter of 1 1/5 hours. My 3 year old even got a chance at lindy rigging.
We caught a bunch in the 10 inch range also. To small to keep but the future sure looks bright.
