Hope you kept those pike. That lake is getting full of snakes. Could use some thinning.

We didn't this time but it's time to get some to pickle, so I think if I find them again, they will be in a jar!

I hear you about the hammer handles!! I can't stand the stunted pike population in WF. If I'm gonna have pike nicking up my spinner rigs, I'd at least hope they'd be decent sized. Unfortunately, WF is always gonna have the stunted pike problem untill they get rid spearing. Just my 2cents.

I fished Whitefish for a week in June. It is frustrating to catch all of those stunted pike. I'm sure they don't help the walleye population on Whitefish either. Each year they seem to be more stunted pike. I would like to see some pike regulations on Whitefish to try and reverse the stunted pike.

I think there is just way too many spawning areas for pike. I still catch some nice pike out there. As long as those slimy bastards can reach arrowhead, kilworry resort area, up the pine river and the tons of other shallow weedy areas there will always be too many small pike.

My family has a cabin on lower whitefish (we're the lighthouse: generations three and four)and almost every summer we haul our southern cookies up to MN to cool off for a week. We love it. However, my husband and 12yo son have had zero luck fishing. My son espeacialy is getting a bit discouraged (he is too old to be excited about baby blue gills.) So I thought I'd do some reconnaissance. I've already read some great tips and now know more about fishing then I thought possible but if anyone cares to share some specific tips I (and my boys) would be forever greatful. We will be up there for one week at the beginning of Aug. Here are some questions I have from reading the posts (try not to laugh I'm still learning.) My husband wants walleye and my son wants a pike can they fish for both at the same time and have a prayer catching anything or should they take turns? When you say, "fish fast" do you mean the speed of the boat while trolling or do you mean reel in the lure quickly? Is there a lure color, size, flavor ; )that we should be sure to have? Is there a lucky time of day? What are you talking about when you say "snakes"? Thank Y'all for all Y'alls help in advance. (if we catch something photo worthy using your tip I'll send you some real Texas hot sauce : )

This might be a little hard to pull off but if you can start trolling at about 9:15 pm and pull rapalas like husky jerk-baits and shallow running shad raps till about midnight you have a really good shot at some nice walleyes as they will start to move to night feeding more than day feeding now. With the water warming up day time trolling for northerns will be your best bet with possible bonus walleye or bass coming at the same time. deep diving rapala tail dancers run at about 16-20 feet in 18-30 fow will get you some fish and be moving at least 2.5-3.5 mph fish now are used to fast prey and good sized as well. colors I would go perch and gold and black or silver and black. If your going to use live bait try crawlers on spinners down near the bottom in about 21-24 fow during the day and for northerns get some sucker minnows and toss them around under bobbers by big weed flats. good luck gang.

We pulled plugs Friday night from 9 to 1 and got a few rock bass and one eye. The fish are suspended and it is more of a night bite then a daytime bite that is for sure. Don't be shy about trying all depths especially in low light. Most of the fish that we marked are suspended from 10 to 30 ft down.

We have been doing very well for walleyes on middle white fish, around 8 or 9 at night, over very deep water, its a small window of opportunity, but we usually catch 5 to 10 walleyes each trip. Very suspended fish over very deep water, not typical depths for eyes, but what do you do.

Mudpig. Thanks for the info. I'm heading up the WFC Saturday for a week. Are you trolling cranks for the eyes, or some other approach? I've done well the last few years on Upper Whitefish, but haven't been able to coax anything but pike from Middle.

Rueben,
I'll be up there tonight and all of next week too. Can't wait to get away for a while. Good luck out there.

This weekend was all about deep water on the WFC.
Saturday was downriggers in the morning on big trout that only produced one 20" laker in about 2 1/2 hrs and then it was on to lower whitefish for the rest of the day. We caught northerns as deep as 42' in 60-100 FOW. the largest saturday was 32" with several in the 24-28" class. Spoons and minnow baits pulled at about 1.9-2.2 mph 30-80 ft back. Lead core stuck all the eyes and they were all small. 4 late in the day on saturday with only one kept at 17"s and 3 released at 13-14"s. Now for the bonus fish the whiteys, some really nice fish up to five pounds but most running about 3 lbs. Whitefish were hitting the boy-girl colored Michigan Stinger spoons ( small one ) and several northerns where caught on this as well. Did some night trolling over humps but nothing after 9:30.
Sunday produced one more small laker at 16" and then more white fish on the chain. Sunday produced the biggest northern on lead core and a #5 perch shad rap. 5 colors and 30ft leader 37 incher. What a battle from about 40ft in 50 fow. Surface temps about 75 degrees and most white fish where 45ft in 50-120 fow a couple where caught 60 down.
Just to much pleasure/power boat traffic to get the eyes to go during the day and flat water as well. Weather was great and the Whiteys are in the brine. Sorry morron here forgot the camera.

Pulled plugs over deep water on Friday with only one eye to show. Marked a lot of fish but couldn't get them to try what we had to offer. Nice haul fishgutz.
