Alright guys, me and two of my friends would like to take a 3 FISHING day trip, so 5 days total, up to the pond. What would you guys reccomend? As far as lodging, where to launch on the lake, what to fish for when, what's working now, etc?

We're primarily going for walleyes amd muskie, however if there's a hot bite on smallmouth, pike, perch, or crappie, we'll definitely be in.

What would your guys's attack plan be?

Oh, and we won't actually be going up there for about two weeks.

You can not go wrong with Appeldoorns Sunset Bay Resort or Hunter Winfields. They have links to their website right above this forum. They are on the East side and you will instant have access to all the species right out your back door.

I am a tried and true Doe Island guy and Appeldoorns is right off of Doe Island. The Musky's I have seen caught from that area are second to none. I also have seen the biggest small mouth I have ever seen caught come right from that area also. I will also add one of my biggest walleyes on ML came from Doe Island reef as well.

Now, you just have to get up and fish!

Good luck!

Oops, guess I should've made it clear. We plan on bringing a boat up, and staying in a motel to save $, or even sleeping in shifts on the boat! lol

We usually stay at Eddy's when we come up for 4 or so nights. We like the marina, boat launch and screened in fish cleaning house. We usually run up to the flats to fish during the day but when it is windy there are many good fishing spots near the marina (including rock piles for smallies).

We often park the boat on their dock and run to the casino for a buffet lunch to gorge ourselves for the day. It is also easy to find the marina at night when returning from a night fishing expedition as it is very well lighted.

Good Luck!

I would still give them a call. Their rates might be same or less than a local motel.

You would be amazed!

Good luck!

McQuoids is located in Isle which is close to the Doe Island area that was mentioned earlier. McQuoids is equally as affordable as Eddys and more private. Terry McQuoid has taken the place back over and it's better than ever. You won't be disappointed. There is a public access about a block away and you can dock your boat right in their marina. I was very pleased with the service the last time we stayed there, much improved! Next time I might try to get a few more people together and rent out one of their nice condos. They look really nice.

As for fishing I wouldn't bother going to the flats they have been slow for almost everyone this year. You don't need to go out more than a few miles in any direction from McQuoids and you'll be fishing the best part of the lake. Good Luck.

We have a bunk house - all remodeled - for $75 a night as well as an Ice Castle we let people use for the same price. We have a very nice restroom, campfire and grills all around the property.

Otherwise, cabin prices start at $175 a night (we do have a discount this weekend because we have a couple that just opened up).

Thanks for all the info guys, but I just found out that my buddy has a tent, so where's the best campground lol? I don't mean cheapest, but I mean if the NW side of Mille Lacs is hot right now, where's the best campsite there? Go by which area is hottest, not by the best/cheapest overall. Thanks guys!

For Camping Father Hennipen park is a good place. You have good access to walleye and smallmouth fishing the rocks as well as Muskie action in the bays around Isle and Wahkon.
