Has anyone been on Miltona in the past week fishing walleyes? If so, can i get an update on the bite? I'm looking for general information - Nothing specific.

I'll be on the water Friday morning early through Sunday morning.

Thanks,

I was up on Miltona this last weekend and managed to get out for a few hours. We tried minnows, leeches, and crawlers, and caught one small walleye. On a side note, the fish did seem very active overall, we just couldn't find the eyes. We ran into a school of rockbass in about 15 feet that were feeding like pirahnas.

The walleye was caught after dark on a leech in about 20-24 FOW, and we missed a few good bites as well. Good luck!

regahnoraa,

I spent a week on Miltona last week, the walleye bite was a bit slow. Even the seasonal guys at the campground we stay at had a tough time putting a few in the boat. We did manage to get a few nice eaters on moday morning, and then again tuesday evening, we cauhgt most of our fish using leeches on a plain snell except for a red bead and red hook in 17-19 fow. Monday we were trolling, and tuesday evening we were jsut sitting anchored. We also were fishing on the east side for the most part. I tried teh flats a couple of evenings with nothing bigger than 10-13 inch walleys to show for it.
It was disappointing at first but then realized that if people put them all back in a year or two we're going to have a great year class that will be coming of size. cool

Put 10"-13" back? There must be a different class of people fishing up there. Down here on lake Mary those are good fish basket size, pack em in there! Take all you can and the DNR will put more in that's what the guys say around here that I've confronted about keeping little ones. God forbid we'd have the intelligence to let them grow up a little.

Seriously now I almost never see people up on Miltona keeping the small ones. I actually regain some respect for the fisherman around here when I fish up there. Miltona is an awesome lake and the people that fish it seem to use their heads, way to go guys. That's why Miltona regularly produces 6-8 pounders and on Mary that's almost unheard of.

It looks like you should have a good weekend for fishing good luck.

Fished for about an hour Saturday morning before it started raining. Dad didn't have rain gear so we left. Caught a 16" & about a 10" on plugs. We caught those in about 6'.

We kept the 16" not the 10".

Thanks to everyone who replied. I'll be on the water Friday morning early. Check this link again on Sunday evening, I'll try to post my results before Monday morning.

I agree with releasing the short fish, we have caught many fish on our last few outings - returning the 10-14 inch fish shouldn't be that hard to do. On my last trip (middle of June) we boated plenty of walleyes between 28-1/2" down to 8".

Good Luck to All!

PieEyed,

That is the exact reason why I've given up fishing on Mary. It used to be a person could go out there and have no problem catching 2-3 Walleyes in an hour or two that ran between 15-18" and have a good meal. The last few times I've been out there I've been hard pressed to catch a decent sized walleye to get a meal. I wish more people had the mentallity of releasing the little fish so they could grow up and get a few good year classes in a row going.

PieEyed, is there one discussion about Lake Mary that you haven't hijacked? I will be on Lake Mary this week and was doing some research on this site. In almost every Lake Mary post over that past 3 years, you hijack it with the talk of the "stupidity" (opposite of intelligence) of other fisherman in keeping small fish. Please keep your rants and insults to yourself. I understand your frustration as we have the same issue here in the cities, but I don't go and confront them as long as they are following the law. If they break the law, I will call TIP, if they don't I leave them be. Life is too short to be angry all the time. You are at the lake, relax, enjoy, and spend time with your family.

I was hesitant to post this, but after reading multiple rants from you I finally had enough. Let people on this site share information without calling them stupid all the time.

Oh, and for the record, I will be fishing mostly bass this weekend. And I practice CPR for bass.

Muskieguy, I was complimenting the mentality of fisherman on other lakes in the area. I’ve only had the nerve to call tip one time on a guy that fishes Mary, but it resulted in him getting busted for over 150 walleye in his freezer. I’ve also heard the DNR catch another guy with 150 in his freezer and another with over a 100 in his boat! Those are only the people that get caught, so ya it’s a sore subject. I don’t understand what they’re thinking. When I read “Alex1” bring up 10-13 inch walleye I thought it was a good time to mention the POSITIVE differences that I’ve seen. I fish a lot of lakes in the area and it just seems that every trip I make to Mary you see people just making poor choices. Mary is such a great lake and could be incredible with a little conservation. The only thing we can hope for is the people that go to Mary read a couple of these posts and realize that what they’re doing is hurting the lake. Then Maybe one by one we could change the way they think and better a lake? Maybe it’s a dumb dream but a lot of people just don’t know any better. Sorry, you had to get so upset there, “Muskieguy”. All my posts I believe are factual and help people that don’t fish as much as I do, to see what’s happening out there? I only have about 175 posts but of those posts what is there 10 that refer to Mary? Wow I’m really getting out of hand. Thanks for setting me straight Muskieguy. I post about good fishing and good times almost all the time, but you can’t just ignore the negative things.

Oh and I was on Miltona last night and caught a few little ones, but I did manage three walleye 15”-17” in 18-22 FOW using a leech. Good luck fishing.

yeah I see you have quite a few posts, but of the 10 post about Lake Mary you are part of, seems like most are rants about small fish being taken out of the lake. It is fine that you post and voice your concern but start your own topic, don't hijack a post and get in the way of people trying to share information. You seem to have the "nerve" to bash fisherman behind their back on sites like this, but can only muster the nerve to call TIP a few times. If you see somebody break the law, call the authorities. PERIOD.

I knew I should have stayed away...but oh well...this will be my last post as I am off to Alexandria..quick trip to Ida, then to Lake Mary...and if I see somebody break the law, you bet your sweet behind I will use the TIP number programmed into my phone. What I will not do is confront somebody on the lake for lawfully keeping a fish, regardless of size.

I've been on a different lake everyday this week, if I remember correctly it was right around 75deg. I've talked to a couple guys and they've boated a few in the past couple weeks. From the way they made it sound it's very possible to catch one right now. They also said Lobster is turning on as well. Good luck.

You’ve never been on a lake and think that guy has been out here twice today? Or you think you’ve seen him put more than six in his boat but you’re not sure? I genuinely care for the area lakes and the fisheries, but I’m not going to turn in possibly innocent people. If I’m sure you bet I’ll turn em in. I also don’t bring up small fish to random people on the water unless they talk to me first about why I’m letting them go. I have quite a few people confront me and ask why I’m letting all my fish go and then I’ll explain my reasoning. You wouldn’t believe the number of people that I see start to C&R small and big fish right after I talk to them. It’s almost like they do it because they know someone else cares. Is that OK with you Muskieguy?? Good luck fishing and I’m sure you’d never ask for it but I’d be happy to help you find the large bass on Mary right now.
