I use "circle-octopus" sometimes, but mostly just octopus hooks, size 8/0 and higher.

I use Big Fun Catfish hook from Mustad or for small eater kitties I use size 1 or 1/0 bait hooks for cut bait. Live bait, I use bass hooks - wide gap worm hooks.

I've seen some really good hook up ratios by WWG with a thinner wire Kahle hook. It really penetrates and at a good angle.
I think the size is like 6/0 or 7/0 Eagle Claw

Kahle hooks rule!!! Be it live Baitfish, Cutbait, or Frogs the Kahles are pretty much all I will use for them Red river Catfishes. They always hook up reliably, no special rods or technique needed!!!
