This is how Ice Fishing should be. A neighbor of our cabin made this ice auger out of a chain saw, a snow blower gear box, and a Mora Auger. I think many of us get a little over the top with buying toys for the ice. Including myself. But I thought I would show you all a pic of this auger. It is not the fastest but it does the job and is light and easy to carry. Best yet, it did not cost a lot.

Cheers to this guy! I bet it'd cut faster with an auger intended for a power auger. Even so, I'd be in the front of the line to pat this guy on the back!

If you have the means to do something that like, good for you. Looks like an auger to me and I'm sure it cuts just fine. Way to go for that guy to build his own out of used parts.

The very first ice auger that I ever saw was one that my dad bought back in the 60s and it was made with a aircraft landing gear motor with some type of auger welded straight to the motor so when it started it was going wide open right now. That auger cut ice so fast but you have to realize up to this time all the holes we cut were done by hand with a chisel so it did not take much to be a improvement. My dad made a set of 50' jumper cables so we could get off the roads on Mille lacs when fishing and we really did think that we had it made. grin

Ice gator has a very nice product. I own one of these battery operated augers and have my Nils auger attached to the powerhead.

No smoke and man can this unit cut. I would guess as well as my Nils with the Nils powerhead.
