I never said you were on the novice side of muskies. Im just saying what i see and here out there. I may not live on or near the lake but i know a lot of people that have been fishing out there. I was just giving some info on this forum for less fortunate people that dont get out much. So i guess i wont do that anymore. Sorry.

Couple quick things- the studies previously mentioned (an numerous others) pretty clearly show that muskies preferred food are soft spined critters like suckers and ciscoes. Only a relatively small percentage of their diet is made up of walleye. However, they do occasionally eat walleye. But... the whole "there aren't any walleyes left in Lake X because of all the darn muskies" stuff is totally unfounded and based in very outdated, old-school thinking. The research just doesn't support it.

I'm a member of the FM chapter of Muskies Inc. I know a ton of muskie guys who fish Big Detroit a lot. Most of us have really struggled a whole bunch the last couple weeks. There definately have been some fish caught, but it's been pretty few and far between since around the 4th.

Scoot, in my previous post i mentioned that most lakes with muskies are excellent walleye lakes. Not that lake x has no walleyes because of muskies. You muskie guys out there seem like you get a little defensive. The people saying that there are no walleyes because of the muskies must not fish the good lakes.LOL DL, pelican, cass, leech, milacs, Lake of the woods and so on just to name a few.

What was the topic on this thread again? Oh yeah hows the Musky fishing in the DL area. For me it has been alright, seeing fish but not boating many.

DHanson: Come on now, Nothing in Ray1's first post indicated that "muskies eat all the walleye". Quit trying to play the musky advocate and chill.

So true Ray! I can't believe such a playful innocent post can be twisted into an anti-muskie ploy. It's stuff like this that gets muskies bad press.

Ray, I wasn't responding to your post at all- just responding to the general theme of the (misdirected) thread. I didn't mean to be defensive- in fact I thought I sort of pointed out both sides of the coin (1: muskies diets are mostly made up of non-walleye prey, and 2: muskies will most certainly eat a walleye if they see the opportunity for an easy meal). My appologies if it seemed like I was responding to your post and attacking you in any way- not my intentions.

Another point to show how non-defensive I am about this- I've got several walleye pattern muskie lures. Most of them have teeth marks in them too. Obviously, that doesn't mean that "the muskies are eating all the walleyes", but that pattern has caught fish for me in the past.

Like I said in the post above- most of the really good muskie sticks I know have struggled over the past couple weeks. Goofy weather sure hasn't helped matters...

Off topic a little bit, but my wife is convinced that those Big D muskies will feed on her if she goes into the lake... Any truth that the muskies feed on women and children?

Yo witch, if you want to discuss things further, please send me an e-mail listed at the bottom. I would be more than happy to go through things with you.

Yes, if the opportunity presents itself but they prefer walleyes. grin

Yeah that's great... Still don't understand your first post though... Nothing negative was said and you hijacked the thread and made it into a walleye/muskie issue... These muskie diet studies have been shoved down the throats of anglers for the last 2 years... I think we got it... The DNR are on board with the muskies so why push the issue...Now please move along and find more walleye guys to show these studies too... Times a wasting...

Muskies not only eat children they are a menace to society. Last year muskies knocked up my daughter, stole my truck, beat up my mother, and burned down my fricken house... They must be stopped! laugh laugh

real classy man, watch the lingo a little guys. Let's talk about fishing and help each other out a little. All the guy was asking for was a little report.

Also consider- for those of you that have caughten muskies on a walleye or had them next to the boat on one. when you are reelling in a walleye- i would assume it gets pretty eratic and looks like an easy target to a muskie. Maybe alot of these walleyes are being attacked because they are hooked by us.

and to the report-- Big Dl has been slow for me, 2 legals in 20 hours. 2 other fish in the area in the past 3 weeks.

Geez...thanks to the like 1 guy who actually said something about their observations in the area...I think you guys need some kind of support group or something to get out all your muskie/walleye frustrations. Maybe the muskie guys should fish walleyes the rest of the summer and the walleye guys go muskie only!!!

Here's some better advice....shut up and fish!! There are plenty of both species for everyone to go after.

Thanks men! Good fishing!
