I am looking to go on a deer stand placing-catfish trip in late Sept., or Oct. I deer hunt in NW MN,not too far from Newfolden,MN. I figured I would pull the boat up to the place, drop off the deerstand, and then get on the river to do some catfishing. I am a newbie to fishing the Red River,so I am looking to get pointed in the right direction. I figure on launching at the access by Oslo(got relatives right near there),at Drayton,or will even consider driving up to Pembina.Which access is the one to put in at,this time of year? I have a Lund S-16 for a boat. I have been reading the threads/posts/replies here for awhile to get the lowdown on tackle, bait, etc., but any suggestions with that stuff is welcome. I have baitcasting tackle, medium to medium heavy action catfishing stuff. No roll sinkers, circle and kahle hooks, almost the whole nine yards. I am not,by any means, asking for hotspots, or GPS coordinates. Just looking to get a starting point for a two or three day trip, in the middle of fall. Thanks for any help,FM'ers.

Be sure to recon some frogs too when scouting your deer stands.

Frogs than will produce cats and very nice walleye, especially at night.

Keep in touch with the river levels and watch the boards for tips as the date of your trip nears. Things change quick when rains come.

A big help will be Google Earth. Download it and start your recon. Print key spots and start a folder, it will be a big help.
