Go talk to the owner at the Dam Store at the Rapidan Dam. That man is a genuine river rat, and he can give you a lot of info.

Plus - when you are there - have lunch and a piece of pie - the best pie in the area....

Well thanks to all of the posts I think a gameplan has come together...
Weather permitting, a couple of buddies and I are planning to stop by the dam store tomorrow and eat, maybe pick up some advice and then set out to catch some river eyes. Can hardly wait!

No Doubt! You can't leave the dam store cafe without having a piece of Jen's pie! The malts and burgers are great too.

Jim and David most often have a great slection of live minnows too. Fatheads, suckers, and chubs...they catch um all themselves.

The gage is really jumping between 2 and 3.5 feet at Rapidan...I wonder whats up with that?

I got to get down there grin

dark you are supposed to keep the chubs on the DL as summer treads on! just kidding, i don't get down that way enough anyway to make use of them.

Made it out on Saturday with a couple pals. We hit the MN river, fishing on some private land that a friend of mine grew up near. Happened to mention to him that we were planning to fish the river but weren't sure where to go and he was quick to offer this haven... Got there about an hour before dark and fished until 2AM. Landed 7 flatheads, 4 walleyes, a gar and had an absolute blast! No big flatheads landed but we lost two that felt very big. Our equipment just couldn't cut it... The walleyes went 16" to 23" but shut down shortly after dark, just about the time the catfish started running. Largest cat we landed was just over 10lbs and smallest was 5lbs. Lots of fun to catch even though they weren't huge.

Caught the walleye on jig/fathead and catfish on creek chubs and bullheads.

We're already planning to do it again and each of us has a new respect for fishing flatheads. Man are they fun!

Not sure how to add pics but I will try and learn later today.
