I tried last weekend on Cross and only caught bass and a couple pike. We were using lindys/leeches in 16-25ft. This season has been terrible so far for me..as far as 'eyes go. I'll be back again this weekend, I might try Whitefish and see if my luck changes there..I'm certainly not counting on it. A buddy of mine caught some walleyes in Lower Hay in 16ft using leeches over the 4th.

I'll give you guys a tip. Drop the lindy rigs, jigs etc and move!! Catch the active fish, don't waste your time moving slow. Go after the active fish w/ speed to trigger bites. Nothing will frustrate you more than crawling around whitefish hoping for a walleye to bite. The whitefish walleyes just aren't programmed that way...they are too fussy when they have time to inspect your bait.

Good Tip! Can this be applied to many lakes this time of year?

walleye vision, would you put spinner rigs in the category of speed, or are you mainly talking cranks?

Have fished lake for more years than I care to remember. This year has been tough. I think just now the fish are moving to the spots they should of been on in June. Best luck we have had is on the sand in 18 to 25 ft of water. Have not tried cranks yet but the water temp. should be about right. People are right the fish seem to be quite shy so I would stay away from lots of boats and look for active fish away from the so called hot spots. If walleyes are slow try panfish they have been really going. Good Luck

Anchor man, Spinners definately, as well as cranks.
I too have marked lots of fish on the chain and drop down some bait and ..... nothing. I wish I had a camera at those times to make sure what I was seeing was walleyes and not suckers etc.

Last time I was out, last year, I was marking a bunch of fish in the 16-20' range, dropped the camera down and they were walleyes, I ended up slip bobbering because they were crusing all around, ended up up with one 14 incher in about an hour and had to call it a day. That was on upper whitefish...
I'm up here now, haven't had much chance to get out yet, the rain is kind of keeping me inside where it's nice and dry. ( and the internet works great)
Not sure what my plan of attack is for the weekend, I'd like to catch some eyes, but I've never done good up here, I'm thinking about trying some night trolling over some deep water tonight. Anyone ever have any luck doing so on the chain, we'll probably try it on Crosslake.

Thanks for the info. Went out last night for the first time and caught a couple of eyes trolling. All were caught at 30 feet of water.

I ended up with a 25.5" and 22" using a white jig head and leech, 18 and 25ft is where they came out of . Didn't get a chance to troll cranks like I'd hoped to.

Anybody ever fish the Pine river close to where it feeds into whitefish....my grandpa has a cabin nearby and I'm wondering what/if anything is biting in there....

Lots of Pike by the dropoff. Have done well for walleyes to the north and east off points and bars.

Caught a bunch of pike on cranks but no eyes. Most of the pike were in deeper water.
