I am excited I just bought a new boat yesterday. Got a great deal on it. It is a 1959 Glasspar Avalon with a 1969 55 hp engine. Only a few things need to be done with it. All it needs is a new battery and some seals for the lower unit. DOes anybody know how much the seals for the lower unit would be?

No clue on the cost, but congrats on getting a boat. Welcome to FM as well.

Typically you'll need a gasket and seal on the water pumps cover, two(tandem) bearing seals below the water pump. 2(tandem)propshaft seals and a shift rod seal. You'll be replacing the impeller as well. Normally thats around $50 total but once in a while you get an impeller that'll run that much. Not sure if the 1969 55 hp is one of those odd balls.

Welcome to Fishing Minnesota!

And Frank has you covered as far as the seals... it's somewhat dependent on which one's you're replacing...

Impeller-- Sierra part # 18-3082--approx 18.00
(OMC # 382547)

prop shaft seal sierra # 18-2012--approx 13.00 each
(OMC 310599)
Drive shaft seal sierra # 18-2059--approx 8.00 each
(OMC 321466)
For some reason these seals don't appear to come with the Sierra seal kit # 18-2690--$32.00 Which has all the other gaskets and o-rings. Strange

Welcome aboard
