I'm pumped to get up to Cass this year (I'll be up the 20th to the 27th at BOTL). I went out fishing on the 4th and caught a personal best 24" walleye...I'm excited to try and beat that on my trip!

None of the conditions were right to catch this fish...2pm, hot weather, 5-6 FOW, #3 Mepps reeled back quickly to stay out of the weeds (it was a last ditch effort to hook into a northern before leaving for the day). I was definitely surprised to see the fish swim by and then even more surprised to have it hit the lure! It was also fun landing the fish in a canoe without a net, as well.

The lake is in the southern suburbs of Minneapolis and I knew there were walleye in there, but I'd never seen one until this! I normally catch a lot of northern and smallies there.

Anyway, just thought I'd share something on here since I read the posts all the time, but rarely contribute...

Nice walleye. They definately hang out in those weeds.

Good Luck up on Cass.

Nice Job Caddie,

I will be up there the same week, not sure if I can split a trip though, I have a ton of days booked the next week with Brian. I will let you know.

Jlehn and Caddie,

I will be up there from 7/19 to 8/2 at Wishbone. If you two would like to split a half day with Brian let me know. It would have to be either Monday July 21st or Tuesday the 22nd. I will be tied up after that with my father in law. I am going out with Brian on Sunday the 20th and we do a trip by ourselves on the first day, kind of a tradition. Let me know and I can lock Brian down, I know he said he had the time available. I can fish for whatever you guys want to hunt for. Just let me know.

Jim, yep...BOTL east side. I've been going to Cass for quite awhile. We used to stay at Tom's back when it was still around. Will you be at the dinner on Monday night (I'm assuming they still do that pot luck thing)?

Windy, I'm not sure splitting a trip will work this time around, but will keep you posted. Like I told Brian, I have a lot of family that will be up as well and I'm not sure what the plans are yet. I'd love to get out and fish with you and Brian, just might not work out logistically this time...

That's cool Caddie,

I fully understand the family thing. When our second week hits we usually have about 25 family members that span 4 generations and getting everybody out fishing is tricky. Good luck and hope to see you out on the water. Cruise by and say hey! Red Alaskan with 40 hp Merc 4 stroke and a large white man with a beard and glasses will be me!

Windy, I'll definitely stop and say hi if I see you out on the lake. I'll be in a little Skeeter w/ 60HP Johnson. And of course, the old man and I will have Sox hats on. smile

Caddie you will be leaving the weekend we are arriving so I will not see you at the Monday night spagehitti night. But sometime on Saturday or Sunday I would like to pick your brains on what worked and what didnt. Windy how does your schedule look like for splitting a 1/2 day on Monday 7/28? It does not make any differenc to me on what we are fishing for. I would really like to learn more on trolling spinners for day time walleyes.

Jlehn,

That sounds ducky to me. Where are you staying? We have to let Brian know. I like to head out about 7 am but I let Brian make the call because he knows if the early bite is happening. we have left as early as 6-6:30 and sometimes as late as 7:30 but I leave it up to the expert. If you want to learn about trolling spinners for daytime walleye you will be with the master! Brian has it down to a science. Brian and I are planning some different trips this year, targeting a variety of species. Let me know if you want to fish for eater walleye (15-19" range) or if you want to target some of the big girls. Brian has some different strategies that we will be using for the bigger targets. I did want to do one day of eater walleye fishing so if that is what you want to do then we will schedule it for that Monday. Let me know and I will confirm with Brian. You can shoot him your email and let him know it is ok to send it to me and he will do so. Looking forward to fishing with another FM'er, I have fished with a few and they have all been great. Bob Gray and I had a blast a few years ago fishing for eater walleye with Brian for a half day and then Bob took me out on his boat for a half day of muskie chasing and Bob did manage to land a fatty that had to go about 41-43", nice fight and tons of fun watching him land it. Talk to you soon.

Hey Bob,

Not sure what your plans are but I am flying solo with Brian all week. Let me know if you want to head out for a day and we can make it a threesome with Brian!

Windy,
lets go with the Monday 7:00 am or whatever time. I have fished with Brian maybe three different times. We are over at BOTL cabin 3. The other group going up with us has Brian booked for 3 musky outings. Let me know if I have to send a deposit or anything. Trolling spinners for eating size walleyes works for me maybe a norhtern or two also

I will let Brian know, I have been booking trips with Brian since he started his business so I am in the prefered customer catagory. You won't need a deposit! LOL

The three of us should pound the wallys pretty good and you and I can split the fish that we catch. We should be able to get 6 good eaters each. I have confidence in Brian!

So we are down for Monday July 28th. You can shoot Brian your cell phone number and he can call you if the start time varies from 7 AM.

Is this cool with you Brian? I know you read the threads! LOL
