muddog there are many different things you can do while you drift, and i think i mayhave only touched the tip of the iceberg when i say i have tryed about thirty different things while drifting, but i would have to say the most popular things to do while drifting are lindy rigging( live bait rigging) or jigging. but like i said there are many more, drifting is just an easy way to present your bait or lure in a slower and more stealthy way. but i also use a trolling motor and or drift sock to control my drift

Do I fish flats, sure I do, but I try to key on why I caught a fish where I did, was there some more rocks down there, did the bottom get slightly softer or harder? Even flats have there own little pieces of structure on them...

Some do, some don't. It is the flats that do not that im talking about. Any many times even when structure is present it is not the structure that is holding the fish there. Baitfish holding in the area is why the fish are there and they are relating to the baitfish. It does no good in these situations to sit and pound a piece of structure. You are better off covering ground and putting your bait in front of as many roaming walleyes as you can. The electronics come into play for finding the pods of baitfish and where the baitfish are in the water column. These are walleyes roaming a structureless area and sometimes suspended 5 feet up in 12 feet of water. You can look for structure until the cows come home in the situations im talking about but it wont do any good if you find it. The fish are relating to baitfish. And in these cases, a drift puts alot of fish in the boat for me. This scenario plays out on most lakes and is quite often overlooked.

On lakes like Madison where schools of shad can be anywhere, drifting over them is a great presentation. The zero noise level from the boat and no prop wash will help keeping fish from spooking. If I was a fish on the local lakes I would be nowhere near any structure because of the preasure of the fisherman, motors making noise and anchors bouncing and dragging the bottom. Sometimes fish do not want to be by any structure at all and just roam looking for an easy meal. Some of my best spoonplugging action has been out in the "open plains" of a lake. Here is an example of the pressure on a spot on a lake. While doing some work by Madison lake during the week over 65 boats tried fishing on millers point. Take it for what its worth, people like to fish how they want and relax. Isn't that what it really is about?

That was understood when he said; They should bring back DDT because there are to many Bald Eagle and they eat alot of fish.
