We spend most of our time chasing bass and panfish in the summer. There are about 4 cabins that we rent out with friends/relatives for a week of fishing, water fun, and no work. The majority of our group fishes bass and then crappie with the kids/wives. We usually are up the last week of July at one of the resorts.

I usually use white or a blue/white/chart. spinnerbait or an orange/brown/black combo. Any of the shoreline with reeds/pads and the narrows heading to the north bay. Also, around the large "island" casting into the weeds and then letting it drop once you clear the edge as it drops off fairly quickly. Others in my group use some pre-rigged plastic worms about 8 to 10 inches long with a very small split shot and fish the edges and drop-offs. Very slow presentation. They retrive about as slow as they can to keep the worm just off the bottom. They usually end up with some very nice 3 to 5 lb. bass.

We have quite the thread going between the 6 of us. Longest one on the PR board I think.

Do any of you guys ever have much luck fishing in the north bay for eyes? I have usually always had great luck down there but this year all I managed was 6 walleyes for the 14 total days I have been up there.

I was wondering if anyone has had any luck using that new Gulp "Alive" (leeches/crawlers/minnows) for either Bass or Walleye? If it really works as well as live bait it would sure be nice to just keep a tub of that around instead of trying to keep live bait on hand for the whole week at the Cabin. Assuming my wife has the baby this week...I'll be up fishing on the 19th and am REALLY looking forward to a week at the lake.

My only luck for Walleyes has been the inlet or outlet as well as the sand points. I can't say I've ever caught a Walleye in the North end - but I've never fished that area hard. If I get time this year, I'll try to give it a harder look and see what I can find. Have you noticed a time (early a.m. vs late evening) that works best?

Brink,

All i used was the Gulp 4" minnows from opener until mid June on a 1/4 jig. I couldn't catch a walleye on anything else. I went through 4 bags of them in 10 days up there. Plenty of bass and northerns on them too.

As far as the north end goes, one of the guys on here said he was getting a lot of eyes in the north end in 4 or 5 FOW this spring. Personally i have only caught 1 up there in 20 years of fishing the lake. I stick to the main lake weedlines, the hump, and the points from mid June through mid Septmeber usually.

la did you do any good down on second the last time you where up? The last time I was up we did really well where the river comes in. Actually most of the walleyes we we were catching where to big to keep but hey I am not complaining about that. I tried using some of the berkley gulp worked well I could'nt keep the northerns off the hook but I only caught one walleye. How are you usually presenting that stuff are you just reeling in slow or jigging it.

Never had much luck on 2nd other than for bass and northerns. We have slow trolled leaches/minnows around 2nd with hardly any action from walleyes. We have had better luck on 4th drifting the northern half and casting cranks. Lots of small northerns, but usually end up with a walleye or two if we are out a couple of hours. Usually stick to 3rd since I have had better luck there.

Glad to help Brink.

I was down in the second out of the river one of the evenings and got bit off 4 times and got one small eye. There are so many weeds there now the space to cast and not get hung up is small and there was a LOT of boat traffic coming in and out of the river. So it was tough there. I put the GULP minnows on a 1/4oz round jig and reel just fast enough that it clips the bottom while popping it every few seconds off the bottom. Almost all the hits have come on the fall.

Just 2 Days until I head to #3. I was curious if anyone had any recent update on the Walleye or Bass bite? Just curious if the bite has been on or not?
