Ok Ford guys here ya go. My wagon will cut out and die when under 1/2 tank of fuel on I believe left hand turns, but not right hand turns. Obviously something with fuel pickup, any ideas? 1.9 L Manual

Man, this is an easy one, but I can not put my finger on what it is. It was a very common concern.

I would say fuel pump at this point, but could be wrong.

jasper, I will look this up tomorrow, but I remember something about a bad fuel pump ground. Or like shack said a bad fuel pump. Most likely the pick up hose in the tank is sucking air.

I don't rember specifically what years had this problem but it might be worth pulling the back seat (5 second job) to see what kind of shape the wiring harness to the pump is in. Back in the day I gutted a few escort interiors to replace them. They would rub through under the seat and burn up. This problem would cause all kinds of symptoms.

I kind of like the idea of pulling the pump ( if I remember right there is an access under the seat) to see if there is a visible defect in one of the components.

Airjer may have you on track, doing a few quick checks, it looks like this is one of those that had the recall done under the rear seat for the fuel pump, it adds a bulk of wires in a tight spot, and when people sit in the back seat the wires get pinched and rub.

Although if that isnt it, I would pull the fuel pump out and take a good look at the rubber hoses on it. Electrical wiring shouldnt change with less then a half tank, it should act up even with a full tank. I am still thinking it is going to be something inside the tank on the pump, or the pump itself! You can access it from under the rear seat!
