The walleyes are still going very good. I was fishing sunnies with my 3 year old Friday mid-morning. He gets bored and begins to play so I do a little walleye trolling. 11:00 in the morning, clear sunny day. In 30 minutes I snagged 4 nice 15-16 eyes on leeches. So the next morning I head back out with my Father in law. We fished from 5:15 am until 9:00 am. We brought home 9 eyes from 14-20 inches with a 24 and 25 released. We went through 4 dozen crawlers and 3 dozen leeches on sunnies, bass, northerns. A great morning. I took my son back out again today, fished from 5:30pm to 7:00pm. Caught 3 good eaters and a healthy 29 incher. Too bad nobody among the 4 boats and pontoons watching had a camera. Lindy rigging crawlers and leeches with a 4-5 foot snell and a floating jig head in 18-22 feet. The sunnies are relentless but the walleyes were with them....

Paceman, that couldn't have been on Big Detroit like you mentioned a few posts back. I tried this same thing yesterday on Big DL, like you mentioned in your posts a few days ago, and worked the heck out of it with one bass to show... You're hot spot can't be Detroit. I can guarentee that. Also, it seemed like the fish were tite to the weeds - if I got out into no man's land (15+ ft in many different weed line type areas) the fish just plain weren't there. That may be due to the fact that there were 400+ boats out there yesterday!

Oh yeah, on the fourth my buddy put a 28 incher in the boat. That was on Jewitt out in Fergus out there. Still the best lake in this area in my opinion... I've tried Big Detroit now 4 times in the past year or so and have boated one 6 inch walleye. This ain't the spot for eyes. I was gonna hit Pelican yesterday, but the Da Hitman scared me away with those posts of it being down!! smile Oh well, still was fun to be on da water!

Good luck to all!

Hey man, hit Pelican and I am sure you will do well. My point was that after talking to a couple of buddies we agreed that it is not as good as it was a few years ago. We still catch fish and we still have those times where one of us will get into them from time to time, but it is just not as hot as it once was.

Still a fine lake, but a little more off and on than full-time action, IMO.

No it was Big Floyd this past weekend. The first time I fished it this year. The fish were deeper like I said. 18-22. Hard bottom flats near the weeds. We caught a few in the 17 foot range but the panfish were super thick in there. Last year I did really well trolling plugs in this same area. I might try that the next time I'm out. I did really well on Big D a few weeks ago but it was a shiner bite and half of our fish were short. I haven't been back since. Sallie is still pretty good. Cotton has slowed up. I have a feeling that this summer the fish will be biting all summer long, but I have always been an optimist.

Ah, just givin Da Hitman a hard time.. smile No worries!

Paceman - I totally had that hunch yesterday, that if I would have just brought some shiners out... Maybe... As it turns out, my buddy seined (spelling) his own shiners out there on Jewitt before the weekend and that's what he caught the 28 incher on. This is what makes me think thst it may in fact still be a shiner bite out there in Big DL as well. Anyhow, thanks for your posts! It kept me busy yesterday trying to muster up some non Devils Lake walleyes... smile smile

Funny update --

When we were pulling the kids on tubes on Sunday afternoon on Big C and Jet skis and boats were zipping all around us. I saw a boat that landed two nice eyes --

Crazy.

I've noticed that a couple times, especially on South Twin, Sometimes all of the madness must turn a few on. Man, even in the winter, when they have that derby and there are 100's of people on the lake it seems like the walleyes just turn on. I just don't get it.

Yes I was completely surprised I did as well as I did Friday Morning. 11:00 to 11:30 am. Clear, sunny, not much breeze, Jet skis and speed boats buzzing around and close to us......

Hey Paceman, I saw your fishing partner Jack at soccer tonight. Jack described your 29" monster to me but only spread his hands about 18" apart??? Could your ruler be 11" off?
Congrats on the 29" and to Jack for his 15"!

Had a wonderful three days in the area. Only fished Sallie due to boating pressure on the Big D. Walleyes were still going in the usual spot. Brother lost an absolutely huge muskie on the third jump. Easily 30#+. I lost a nice one that managed to inhale a Bulldawg sideways and not get a single hook. Fought all the way to the boat then simply opened its mouth and swam away while I looked on in a stuper. Watched three walleye guys land a 48 incher and work with it for 30 minutes but it appeared to swim away. Pike were running quite large with several fish between 12 and 15 pounds (40 inches!). All on big lures. Pink was the hot color toward sunset. You've seen my ugly mug too often, so here is my sister from Phoenix instead, proud of her Sallie eye.

I am pertty proud of Jack. He was using my lucky baitcaster. I put the crawler on and he did the rest. He pushed the button on the reel, counted to 10, clicked the handle to stop the spooling line and waited for a bite. 30 seconds later he says I feel a thump. I tell him to set the hook and start reeling. He does and yells get the net I have a monster on. I was laughing so hard I could barely stand up. I get the net to land what I thought would be a sunny and up pops the 15 inch eye. Pretty good I think for a 3 year old....
