What are the recommended fishing tactics on Bowstring in mid-July? We have had success at other lakes in the area with bouncing jigs with minnows along the weed lines for northern and wallyes. These seems to work well if there are well defined weed lines - is this the case on Bowstring?

More success last year on Winnie trolling shad raps on 10 to 12 fow. Firetiger color worked well.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

that will work so do spinners with a leech or crawler on the weed line deep water trolling on the humps is good too

I just got back from a week on Bowstring. It was my first time fishing the lake and was a little disappointed along with everyone else at our resort. Seemed a lot of people were leaving to fish other lakes.

We didn't have any luck with the walleyes. The only one came from off the dock in 5 FOW with a leach and a fuzzy grub around 1 pm.

We got into quite a few northern on a few different days trolling with shad raps, etc.

We did drag some spinners and worm harnesses in 20+ FOW along the bar on the south end and had a mid-20s walleye within 2 inches of the net. Maybe it was just a bad week, but have they had a slot on this lake in the past to help with the walleye numbers?

Most of the northerns were under the slot and skinny. Had a few just above the slot. One 30+ shook off my jointed shad rap at the net. That one came off the bar just north of Muskrat Bay. We had 3 northern in about 30 minutes trolling around this bar. The slot should help increase the size and make this a great northern lake.

Didn't seem to be any panfish bite at all which seem unusual for a lake in Minnesota. I would have like to get the kids on something easy to keep their interest up.

The resort and Owner's were great. If you are going to Bowstring I would recommend Bowstring Shores.

My son and I did very well on Bowstring, this past Saturday, out on the mid lake structure. We caught most of our walleyes before the rains started in the afternoon. Jig and leech combo caught all the fish---experiment with jig size and color. Fish were caught in 19-21 FTW.
