My family is headed to Silver Rapids Lodge on Farm lake soon. I undertand Farm Lake is also attached to White Iron Lake and Garden Lake I'm looking for some ideas to help with fishing. Presentaions, lures, where to go,any information would be extremly helpful. My family is celebrating my parents 50th wedding anniversary so there will be many who will want to fish. Also any help with activities in the area would also be very helpful we know about the wolf center and the bear observation and the rootbeer lady any other thoughts? would be helpful!!! :)Thanks I appreciate any information I can get

Welcome Nipper, You need not venture far from Silver Rapids. Some of the best walleye holes are on reefs just east of the narrows. But if you want to get out and explore, White Iron lake narrows halfway up the lake at ring rock. The west shore of the narrows is always worth a pass or two.
One of my favorite spots in all the area is the mouth of the Kawisiwi as it dumps into White Iron. The beauty of this spot alone is worth the long trip from Silver Rapids.
The hole chain has benifitted from special pike regs, and at any time of year a true trophy is possible. I like trolling Creek Chub Darters and magnum Super Shad Raps this time of year-when going from one walleye spot to the next.
I have had better luck with topwater bass in the lower lakes but smallies and an ocassional largemouth can be picked up anywhere that looks fishy.
Giant crappies inhabit the chain. Trolling a small Rapala in likely spots until you locate a school is a fun way to put alot of people on fish. Once you find them, go get the crew, switch to crappie minnows, and you just might have the makings of a super fish fry.
Year in and year out, my favorite way to fish is working a shoreline with a Devil Horse on a flat calm lake. Sure, there are more efficient ways to fish but nothing tops the thrill of a surface hit. The sweet smell of the the northwoods at dusk has magical recooperative powers that never fails to cleans the mind. So even if the fish fail to cooperate, if the bugs are not too bad, and the kids don't whine- you win.
Have a great trip. Hans
