Ladys and gentlemen,

Pretty quiet on the Winni forum lately. Anyone have any recent reports?

I am heading to Winni next weekend staying at Highbanks. I am looking to see how the bite has been? What are the water temps? Are the walleyes showing up on the bars/humps or are they still shallow? What presentation is anyone using? I have fished Winni quite often early in the year, but this will be my first time mid summer.

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks, Matt

I just got back today. We had one fish-fry saturday night with 10 keeper fish and we had about 10 throw backs. Water temp was about 67.7 The bars was the place to be.

Hey Jason is the bite about where it should be this time of year? We head up in 3 weeks and the crankbait bite is usually pretty good, just curious if things might be off this year though?

Just got back spending a week at Winnie. Fish were on and off. When they were off you could pick up one here, one there on live bait rigs on the humps and breaks.

When they were on, they were on fire!!! What a great size variety, we had fish from 10 inches all the way up to 29". (My 9 year old caught the 29")With plenty of keepers and lots of 20" plus fish. Funny thing about last week, the best fishing we had was when the lake was like glass, the more wind the worse the bite??? Usually it's just the opposite on Winnie.

We tried crank baits a few times but only picked up 3. I did see a few large Notherns caught in the same areas. Can't wait to get back up there next week!!!

just my theory, but the way I see it, if you can land on a school of aggressive walleyes and stay on them you can pluck them off on after another.
it is much easier to do that when it's calm than when the wind is rip roaring.
give me a calm day on the water any time, I'll take it. smirk

Thanks for the replies fellas. I will report back after this weekend. I will be up there with a group of college buddies and their wives. The guys are not much of fishermen, but I am hoping to put them on some fish.

I agree with you jigglestick when it comes to wind. I dont like dead calm, but something that is managable. Those 20-30 mph plus days on the bigger lakes are a pain for boat control. My boat is plenty big to handle the rough conditions, but it more work than fun to fish in those conditions. Finding aggressive fish is the key!!!

Thanks again, Matt

Just got back from our yearly family trip to Winni.
Another great time on a great lake.
We were able to get out on the big lake 4 days. Between me and my son we boated over 100 eyes. Plenty to eat and bring home and plenty of 17 to 26 inch fish to just enjoy. Pretty much dragged spinners with leaches over humps. The lake is healthy and well. I can't wait to go back.
