Took the wife out today to see if the bite that I encountered last Tuesday had shifted. Left the ramp at Bayport around 6:45 this morning and headed south to try the area that had produced so well last time out. The bite in this area was still good but with boat traffic high and the fish a little slower we decided to pick up and head north to a spot that had produced very well for us last year. Our plan was to run two planer boards and two leadcore rods over this flat. Five minutes and 3 keepers in the boat put a smile on both of our faces. We worked this area over for about 4 hours and then decided to call it a day with 10 healthy walleyes and sauger to show for our effort. We ran the leadcore as tight to the bottom as possible without trying to snag too much the planer board lures were set to run about 8 feet down. Most of the nicer fish that we caught today at either spot were SUSPENDED, so dont be afraid to fish higher. As a side note the first spot that we targeted apparently has a pretty good perch population inhabiting it right now and they are more than willing to hit the same lures that we are trolling for the larger game fish the size of these perch is about 10 to 12 inches. My wife also enjoyed two personel bests today a very nice sheephead about 8 pounds had evidently lost its flock and absolutely crushed a shadrap and on our last pass a flathead around the same size enjoyed a grappler shad, It is so sweet to see your spouse who doesnt get to go fishing often enough enjoy this much action.
